Bronx Community College announced the appointment of Howie Harrison as the new head coach of the Broncos men's basketball program, bringing to the college more than two decades of coaching, athletic administration, student development, and educational leadership experience.
Harrison joins Bronx Community College after serving as Associate Head Men's Basketball Coach at Hostos Community College, where he played a key role in rebuilding one of the region's premier NJCAA programs. Throughout his coaching career, Harrison has established a reputation for developing student-athletes on and off the court, emphasizing academic achievement, leadership, and successful transfers to four-year institutions.
"We are extremely excited and fortunate to welcome Coach Harrison to BCC," said Director of Athletics Dionne Dodson. "He has established a tremendous reputation within the Bronx youth basketball community and Region XV."
At Hostos, Harrison helped oversee all aspects of the men's basketball program, including practice planning, game preparation, scouting, recruiting, player development, and program operations. His leadership contributed to an impressive record of student-athlete success, including the advancement of 97 players to four-year colleges, 15 NJCAA Academic All-Americans, and a 95 percent graduation rate among student-athletes.
In addition to his collegiate coaching responsibilities, Harrison developed recruiting pipelines throughout New York City's high schools and AAU basketball programs, establishing strong relationships that consistently attracted talented student-athletes committed to both academic and athletic excellence.

My goal is to build a culture centered on accountability, hard work, academic success, and championship-level basketball. We want to develop young men who will succeed not only on the court but in the classroom and throughout their lives."
Before his tenure at Hostos, Harrison accumulated coaching experience at every level of basketball. His résumé includes assistant coaching positions at Emmanuel College, Adlai E. Stevenson High School, Nia Preparatory School, and numerous respected AAU programs, including Castle Athletics and Lionheart Leadership Academy. He also served as head coach at M.S. 421 in Manhattan, where he guided the program to the 2011-12 Manhattan Scholastic Athletic League Championship, and previously led Smith Leadership Academy to an undefeated Charter School Championship season.
Beyond basketball, Harrison has enjoyed an accomplished career as an educator and athletic administrator. He currently serves as Athletic Director for New York City Public Schools District 7 while also directing the district's My Brother's Keeper and My Sister's Keeper initiatives. His previous leadership roles include Assistant Principal, Athletic Director for the Monroe-Woodbury Central School District, Athletic Director for the Newburgh Enlarged City School District, and Supervisor of Physical Education and Health.
Harrison's commitment to education is equally impressive. He is currently pursuing a Doctor of Education in Educational Leadership at Russell Sage College and holds graduate degrees from Columbia University's Teachers College and Relay Graduate School of Education, along with an Advanced Certificate in School District Leadership from Canisius College.
"The dedication to his education and professional growth he has displayed makes him a wonderful role model and mentor to our student-athletes," Dodson said. "I have complete confidence Coach Harrison, and his staff will revitalize our men's basketball program and bring it back to prominence among the CUNY Community College and Region XV."
