Broncos' stellar defense shines in 68-28 demolition of Tigers in CUNY action

Box Score The Broncos' women's basketball team continued its early-season success on Saturday afternoon, dominating the Tigers of Queensborough by a score of 68-28 in CUNY action. The game took place at the Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx. With the victory, Bronx bumped to a mark of 6-3 on the 2025-2026 campaign (3-1 CUNY), while the Tigers dipped to 1-7 (1-3 CUNY).

Pacing Bronx in its victory was Akela Robertson, as she finished with a team-high of 16 points to go along with six rebounds and a game-high five assists. Additionally, Kolonnie Green posted another double-double, netting 12 points while tying for the game-high of 11 rebounds, adding a game-best four blocked shots, and swiping three steals. Destiny Dickerson contributed eight points and four rebounds, and finally, it was Destiny Davis finishing with eight points, four boards, and three assists.

Despite the loss for the Tigers, Samantha Devivo connected on three triples, finishing with a game-high 17 points to go along with a pair of rebounds. Additionally, it was Amya Haley finalizing her afternoon with seven points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Finally, it was Hailey Contreras tying for the game-high of 11 rebounds.

The CUNY foes exchanged the lead eight times in the opening quarter of action, with the final pendulum swing coming when Akela Robertson converted on a layup to put the Broncos ahead 10-9 with 59 seconds to play. That score would hold steady as the buzzer sounded on the first quarter.

Trailing 14-13 in the second quarter, a drained jumper by Green gave Bronx the lead, 15-14. Shortly after, Bronx held a slim 17-14 advantage, before Queensborough's Maeve Fitzgerald burying a long trifecta to deadlock the CUNY Clash at 17 with 4:47 to go in the half. After that triple, the Broncos dominated the game.

For the remainder of the opening half, Bronx outscored Queensborough 12-0 to take a 29-17 advantage at the break. Six different Broncos scored during that aforementioned 12-0 spurt, including Akela Robertson, Green, Davis, Amber Alexander, Ashley Hirado, and Angelina Gonzalez.

In one of Bronx's most dominant quarters of the 2025-2026 campaign, the Broncos outscored the Tigers by a count of 22-2 in the third period. Bronx did not allow a point for the final 8:44 of the quarter, and Dickerson led the charge offensively, leading all Broncos with eight points during that stretch. Bronx held a commanding 51-19 lead after 30 minutes of action.

Queensborough scored the first four points of the final period with a bucket apiece from Devivo and Haley, but the Broncos finished the game on a 17-4 run, with Akela Robertson accounting for six of those final 17 points.

The Broncos earned a 35.2 percent conversion rate from the field (31-88), while Queensborough shot just a shade over 20 percent (11-54, 20.4 percent).
