This past Thursday evening at the Alumni Gymnasium, the Bronx Community College women's volleyball team played its home and CUNY finale, hosting the Tigers of Queensborough. Prior to the match, the institution's Department of Athletics and women's volleyball program honored three sophomores, including Pamela Sierra, Yamelis Santana, and Shanice Walters, in a special pre-match ceremony.

Sierra's career statistical highlights:

Sierra has been the Broncos' most prolific offensive players over the past seasons. Last season, she led the team in digs, kills, and service aces, and for her stellar play, she was tabbed the CUNY Rookie of the Year. This season, she is the team's leader in kills and digs, and she places second in service aces.

Coach Stevenson on Sierra's contributions to the program:

"Pamela is a talented athlete who plays a key role in our team's success through her physical ability and strong understanding of volleyball. This season, she's made it a priority to grow not just as a player, but as a leader and team motivator.

One standout moment was during the match against Kingsborough, the Broncos' first win of the season. She showed incredible composure and leadership, encouraging her teammates, offering advice, and helping keep everyone calm and focused in those final, high-pressure moments.

This sensational student-athlete has made noticeable strides in her attitude and leadership this year. If she continues to build on these areas, there's no doubt she'll grow into an even greater player and leader both on and off the court."

Santana's career statistical highlights:

Santana has been a staple of the program over the past two seasons, competing in 29 matches. During this 2025 campaign, she leads the Broncos in assists, while also placing third in service aces.

Coach Stevenson on Yamelis' contributions to the program:

"Yamelis is a dedicated captain and an incredibly hardworking student-athlete. She's always the first to arrive, the first to set up the net, and the first to hit the court running. Her commitment extends beyond just practices, as she consistently puts in extra time, often training before practice even begins.

What's most impressive is her growth. After serving as a middle last season, she made the transition to setter, a challenging role, and not only embraced it, but thrived in it. Yamelis has become a true leader on and off the court.
Her work ethic, leadership, and passion for volleyball show in everything she does. She has a bright future ahead, and I'm so proud of the player she's become."

Walters' career statistical highlights:

Walters competed in 26 matches over two seasons as a Bronco. During the 2024 campaign, she led the team in total blocks, and was fifth on the squad in kills. This season, she once again leads the team in blocks, and slots in third in kills.

Coach Stevenson on Walters' contributions to the program:

"Shanice is a fiery, passionate athlete who brings energy and motivation to our team every day. Not only is she an amazing competitor, but she has also been a mentor, taking a freshman middle under her wing and inspiring her to grow and give her best.

She has shown tremendous improvement this season, especially in her serving and blocking. Shanice never backs down from a challenge, and she always rises to meet expectations with a smile and determination. Her leadership, heart, and drive have made a lasting impact on this program, and I'm proud of the player and leader she's become."
