Despite valiant effort, Broncos outlasted by Panthers in four thrilling sets at BMCC Gymnasium

The Broncos' women's volleyball team dropped a very competitive CUNY contest last night, falling to the Panthers of BMCC by scores of 25-22, 15-25, 22-25, and 26-28. The match took place at the BMCC Gymnasium in New York, NY. With the defeat, Bronx dipped to a mark of 1-9 on the season (1-6 CUNY), while the Panthers improved to 4-6 (4-2 CUNY).

Despite the loss for Bronx, Pamela Sierra finished with 15 kills on the evening to go along with 12 digs. Shanice Walters added three kills, three digs, and a pair of blocks, and setter Yamelis Santana finalized her evening with 17 assists. Alexandra Cuello put together a nice all-around effort, notching 14 digs, four service aces, and a pair of kills.

Trailing 2-1 in sets, the Broncos rallied back from deficits of 15-2 and 23-13 in the fourth to remarkably take a 26-25 advantage. BMCC was able to right the ship, however, registering the final three points of the set to win the match.

For the evening, Bronx tallied 24 kills, notched 54 digs, recorded 21 assists, and added seven service aces.

The Broncos will return to action tomorrow, as Bronx travels to the Swamp on the campus of Hostos Community College to take on the LaGuardia Redhawks in another CUNY contest. Start-time is scheduled for 1:30pm.
