Broncos stay hot, record third consecutive win by defeating the Express, 87-78; Tilquan Rucker scores a career-high 41 points

The Broncos' men's basketball team won its third straight game on Tuesday evening, defeating the Express of Monroe-Bronx by a score of 87-78 at the Monroe Athletic Complex. With the victory, the Broncos moved to 7-10 on the 2018-2019 season, while the Express dipped to 8-8 on the year.

Tilquan Rucker was masterful for the Broncos in Bronx' latest victory, as he scored a game and career-high 41 points while connecting on 15 shots from the floor. He also added six steals and six rebounds in the triumph, as well. Malik Hamilton posted a double-double with 18 points and 10 rebounds, and veteran Hector Montano added 15 points and a game-high 20 rebounds.

Despite the loss for Monroe-Bronx, the Express was paced by Gian Batista, as he netted 23 points while snatching nine caroms and adding three steals. Dashawn Hines added a double-double with 14 points and 14 rebounds, and Ghetty Allui contributed 15 points.

In what was a tightly-contested first half, the teams played an opening session that featured six ties and nine lead changes. The Broncos trailed by five late in the half before putting together a 5-0 run in the waning stages of the stanza to tie the game at 35-all as the teams headed into the locker room at halftime.

Later – with the game knotted at 60 apiece, the Broncos would put together a 7-0 run, highlighted by a basket by Rucker, a converted layup by Rickardo Byfield, and a successful three-point play by Rucker. At that juncture of the contest, Bronx led by a score of 67-60 – an advantage the Broncos would never relinquish.

The Broncos would eventually catapult to a 12-point advantage (85-73) with 20 seconds remaining before eventually solidifying the impressive nine -win.

Bronx dominated in second-chance scoring, with the Broncos netting 29 points, compared to just 11 for the Express. Bronx held a 54-46 edge in the rebounding department, while also swatting five shots to the Express' three. Monroe-Bronx connected on 44.6 percent of its shots from the floor (33-74) compared to a 40.7 percent conversion rate for the Broncos (33-81). Bronx connected on four three-point baskets on the evening (4-16, 25 percent), while the Express failed to drain a three-pointer all evening long (0-7).

The Broncos will return to action Thursday evening, as Bronx will travel to Middletown, NY to take on SUNY Orange. The new, updated start-time for the game is scheduled for 6:00pm.
