January 5, 2018 - Bronx, NY

The Broncos started 2018 off with a win at home over the Tigers of Queensborough CC.

The last game the Bronx played in 2017 was against the Tigers at their home at Queensborough where they suffered a deflating loss.

In this evening's match-up, the Bronx took to the hardwood determined to capture what eluded them in December, 2017, their first CUNYAC win.

The Bronx found themselves playing soundly and keeping a decent tempo.  Their teamwork and focus was evident which made for a high paced game but at the end of the first half the Broncos found themselves once again behind.

With the score at 37 to 34, the Broncos stepped onto the court to start the second half realizing that they would have to play harder and smarter if they were going to win this game.

Once the clock started, the Broncos and the Tigers went blow for blow with the score changing hands several times and the score tying two times.  Both teams started to show the scars of their hard work by the fouls that were beginning to appear.

As the game closed in on the final horn, Bronx players began to foul out of the game.  First to go was #20 Herve Awono who exited the game with 10 points, 10 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 assists.  Next to fall was #30 Andre Carthorn who contributed 11 points, 2 steals and 3 assists.

With the final seconds of the game ticking down, the Broncos managed to stave off the Tigers and several bouts of sloppy play and poor free-throw shooting to win the game by the skin of their teeth caging the Tigers 74 to 71.

The Broncos finished the game with an impressive three players with double-doubles.  Freshmen guard # 1 Terrell Wigfall was the teams' high-scorer finishing with 20 points, 12 rebounds, 3 steals, 3 assists and 4 blocked shots.  Next was freshman guard #33 Hector Montano Valenzuela who finished with 13 points, 17 rebounds and 2 steals and sophomore forward #20 Herve Awono with 10 points, 10 rebounds, 1 steal and 2 assists.

The Broncos record is now: CUNYAC:  1 - 4, NJCAA Region XV:  4 - 7, NON CONF:  2  -  2,  OVERALL:   6  -  9
