October 2, 2015 - Bronx, NY
One of the most important positions in the Bronx CC Women' Volleyball team is the Libero. The Broncos student athlete that plays the position will be playing the position the complete game with a different color shirt than her teammates.
What is the libero? The volleyball libero is a defensive specialist position. The libero remains in the game at all times and is the only player not limited by the rules of rotation.
The libero is responsible for a great deal of the passing in serve receive. Often the libero will be responsible for a much greater part of the court than her teammates.
The libero position requires intense mental focus. The player must make good passes, must dig well and must keep the play alive by chasing every ball.
The libero is a good passer and good digger with good ball handling skills, quickness and consistency.
The Broncos have 1st year player Arlenee Mejia and returning Sophomore Jackeline Elwin playing the Libero position. Both are important members of the team strategy on defense and offense..
Watching them play is exciting because they seem to be everywhere.
