The BCC Men's Basketball team suffered a tough loss to the Wave of Kingsborough Community College last night, 91-89. On a night where the Broncos saw a 12 point lead swing to a 12 point deficit, the team dug deep to battle back to tie and even take a late lead. In the end though, it was Kingsborough who came away with the win.
Kevin Vanderpool led the team in scoring with 31 points and 10 rebounds.
Taylor Foster and
Stephen Wilson both also logged double-doubles with 17 points, 11 rebounds and with 14 points and 10 assists, respectively.
Abdel Peguero helped fuel the late run by the BCC with his15 points on the night.
In the first half, the Broncos looked to push the pace early and was able to consistently score in the transition. The action was fast for much of the period as Bronx extended the lead to as many as 12 points. At the break, the Broncos led by 9, 46-37.
Momentum quickly swung towards KCC as the Wave started the 2
nd period with a 13-4 run that tied the game at 50, with 17 minutes left to play. From there, the BCC offense struggled and fell behind by as many as 12 points. With less than 4 minutes left to play the Broncos began a run that would bring them back a temporary lead, and then within 2 points at the 1:12 mark. A hard fought put-back layup by
Kevin Vanderpool then tied the score at 89 with 42 seconds left in the game.
The Wave were unable to convert on the next possession and in the end the Broncos had the ball as the clock ticked down under 20 seconds. In the Broncos attempt to score a game winning goal with time expiring, KCC was able to pull out a clean steal and the turnover led to a last second layup. With only 1.2 second on the clock, Bronx was unable to set up a last second scoring attempt.
With the loss, the Broncos fall to 11-6 and 6-6 within Region XV. The team quickly returns to action on Saturday, January 18
th at 3pm as they play host to Dutchess CC in the Alumni Gymnasium.
