Men's basketball sophomores Herbert Gary, Dominique Norman earn '23-'24 CUNYAC All-Star distinctions

2/17/2024 8:12:00 AM

The City University of New York Athletic Conference announced its 2023-24 men's basketball all-star team on Thursday afternoon, and Bronx Community College's men's basketball team was well represented. Central Park East High School product Herbert Gary was tabbed to the All-Star team, while 6'2 forward Dominique Norman earned the conference's Sportsmanship award.

Herbert Gary put together a stellar 2023-2024 campaign for the Broncos this past season. The freshman standout notched a double-double in 10 of the 26 contests Bronx has competed in so far, and he also leads the Broncos with a rebounding average of 9.2 caroms per contest. Those aforementioned 9.2 boards per game are also good for second-best in the CUNY Athletic Conference. In addition, Gary's 70 assists and 34 steals were both good for second on the Broncos. Following the announcement of Gary's accolade, Head Coach Warren Thompson praised the young man.

"Herbert Gary is an integral part of our program," Thompson said. "His determination always pushes the team to perform to the best of their abilities every game, and to see him honored as an all-star two consecutive seasons is very gratifying. He truly deserves it."

Dominique Norman, who earned a spot on the Sportsmanship team last season, captured the award this year, thanks to his tremendous professionalism, dedication to his sport, and excellent reputation as a teammate. Thompson also spoke about Norman's impact during his tenure with the program.

"Dominique Norman is a leader in every sense of the word," Thompson said. "He manages to keep the team focused and driven on and off the court. Dom is always a calming voice while communicating with the team, and that is something we'll certainly miss as he readies to begin the next chapter of his life after BCC."

The Broncos have one game remaining in their season, as they'll take on Dutchess Community College this Tuesday at the Alumni Gymnasium. Start-time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
