Two-year standout Abraham Richter honored on Senior night prior to Broncos' setback to Tigers

The Broncos men's basketball team suffered a CUNY Conference defeat on Tuesday evening, falling to the Tigers of Queensborough by a score of 107-56. Prior to the game, the BCC Department of Athletics took a few moments to honor sophomore Abraham Richter in a show of appreciation for his dedication to the institution's men's basketball program. The standout was presented with an action-shot picture frame and jacket. Richter gathered with his coaches and teammates for a ceremonious photo prior to tip-off.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Richter put forth a tremendous effort on his Sophomore night, posting game-highs of 21 points and 11 rebounds, while leading adding five assists and leading all players with three blocked shots. Alexander Hattel netted 12 points, tied for the game-high of seven assists, snatched five boards, swiped two steals, and blocked two shots, and Abraham Shihadeh finalized his evening with 10 points, seven boards, and a pair of assists.

In the victory for Queensborough, Williams Guzman put forth a stellar effort, scoring a game-high 32 points (14-22 FG, 4-5 FT), snatching 10 rebounds, swiping four steals, and blocking two shots. Jerheim Elder posted a double-double with 22 points, 10 rebounds, a pair of assists, and two steals, and Diego Cruz Lopez finalized his evening with 11 points. Finally, it was Jhereme Asamoah posting a double-double with 10 points, a game-high 22 rebounds, four steals, and three dimes.

The Tigers led 26-17 with 10:36 remaining in the opening half before starting to pull away. Queensborough put together a ferocious 17-0 run over a 4:00 span to take a commanding 43-17 advantage. Guzman scored eight points for the visitors during that aforementioned run. The Tigers later led 55-29 before two straight Broncos buckets (courtesy of Shihadeh and Richter) cut Bronx's deficit to 22 (55-33) as time expired on the first half.

Queensborough started the second half on a 10-0 run over a span of 3:56 to take a 65-33 advantage. The Tigers continued to play aggressively, gradually building its lead throughout the half, and eventually winning the game going-away by 51 points.

The visitors connected on 50 percent of its attempts from the floor for the evening (45-90), while the Broncos earned a 35.8 percent conversion rate (24-67). The Tigers doubled-up the Broncos on the glass, snatching 60 rebounds to Bronx's 30. Queensborough held advantages in steals (20-8) and assists (28-19), but Bronx swatted six shots compared to two for the Tigers. The visitors won the turnover battle, committing 12 miscues compared to 23 for the hosts.

The Broncos will return to action on Thursday evening, as Bronx will play its CUNY and home finale against the Panthers of the Borough of Manhattan Community College. Start-time for the game is set for 6:00pm.
