Men's Basketball Wins Home Opener

Loyal and enthusiastic fans of the Bronx Community College Broncos Men's basketball team showed up to Alumni Gymnasium for the initial home game of the season.

The Broncos won the game by score of 68-62 over the Monroe College – Bronx Express in a NJCAA Division III Region XV game.

The victory is the 2nd of the 2017 – 2018 season.

The performance of the Bronx team demonstrated is a work-in-progress.  Becoming a team unit at the college level demands learning and producing results.

Tonight there were nuances in the process.  The Broncos had a lead of 13 points at the end of the 1st half and were not able to increase the lead and stop the Express attempts to get close in the score.

Specifically, the Bronx team shot 43.3% from the field, 28.6% from 3-point area and 47.6% (10-21) at the free throw line.  The team had 21 turnovers.

The Broncos player's effort, energy and game tempo did not produce the performance of a working unit.   Playing together at a high level is the goal of the team.

Individuals that played well during the game were Hector Montano Valenzuela (19 points, 13 rebounds, 2 steals) and Mark West(14 points, 7 rebounds).  Andre Carthorn (3 steals) and Terrell Wigfall (2 blocks) contributed at the defensive side of the game,

The next home game for the Broncos will be Thursday, November 9, 2017 against Orange Community College starting at 7:00 PM.
