Box Score February 23, 2016 - Bronx, NY







 

The Bronx CC Woman's basketball team worked hard for a win over the Queensborough CC Lady Tigers by the final score of 55-41 at historic Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx CC Campus.
 

Tonight's game was intense from the start.  Both teams had scoring runs in the initial 2 quarters.  The score at the end of half time was Bronx – 19 Queensborough – 13.
 

In the 3^rd and 4^th quarters, the defensive effort of both teams increased.  More shots were taken, turnovers increased and the game was decided in favor of the team that had better ball control.  The Lady Broncos scored 36 points to 29 points by the Lady Tigers in the last half of the game.
 

Barbara Castro (18 points), Shakia Artist (16 points), Angel Mbamalu and Tiana Redmon (8 points each) were the leading scorers for the Bronx CC team.

Shakia Artist (11 rebounds, 7 steals and 4 block shots), Thalia Rodriguez (7 rebounds and 1 block shot) and Semina Radoncic (7 rebounds and 2  block shots) had good all-around games working hard in the Bronx defense strategy.   Julia Hohn recorded 5 steals in the game and Sharonda Payne collected one rebound.

Freshman Hualeska Garcia made one free throw and Alexi Cortez played good defense and moved ball well on offense.

All the  Bronx CC team members contributed to achieve the goal.

The game was part of the quarterfinal round of the NJCAA Division III Region XV Championship Tournament. This victory is the 1st time the Bronx CC Women's team has won a Quarterfinal game in the competition.
