Disappointing Fin-ish for MBB vs Sharks

Box Score February 3, 2015 – Bronx, NY

The Broncos were unable to avoid a letdown two days after their thrilling victory over Sullivan, as they suffered a tough defeat by the Suffolk CC on Saturday, 72-70.  Though they handled the Sharks earlier this season, the Broncos were unable to pull out their second Regional win in a row.

The game started off competitive, but it wasn't long before the Broncos found themselves trailing.  The sluggish BCC offense shot just 33 percent from the floor in route to a 31-25 halftime deficit.  Their 25 points in the first was among the least in a single half for the Broncos this season.

Halftime adjustments got the Broncos back in the game in the second, though they continued to trail the Sharks for the entire half.  It wasn't until Karius Morris hit a layup and was fouled with 1:16 left in the game that the team had its best chance.  Morris hit the free throw to cut the lead to 2 at 70-68.  On the next Bronco possession, Brian Berrios hit a layup to tie the game at 70.  Bronx then found themselves with possession with under 30 seconds to go to set up for a game winning shot, but SCC forced a turnover that led to a Shark layup to go ahead by 2 with just 8 seconds to go.  The Broncos had a chance to tie it at the buzzer as Karius Morris narrowly missed a 12 foot jumper that bounced off the rim as time expired.

Brian Berrios led the team in scoring with 19 points.  Karius Morris had 15 points and 8 rebounds and Karon Williams chipped in with 10 points of his own to round out the only players in double digits in scoring.

With the loss, the team falls to 14-9 on the season.  They return to action on Tuesday, February 3rd as they travel to BMCC to take on the #6 team in the nation, who boasts a 20-2 record overall and is undefeated in region play.  Tipoff is at 7pm.
