The Bronx Community College Women's Basketball team defeated the #2 seeded LaGuardia Red Hawks yesterday in the CUNYAC semi-finals. The 53-37 victory advances the Lady Broncos into the CUNYAC Finals for the 2^nd year in a row.

In a low scoring first half, BCC held the Red Hawks to just 2 points in the first 7 minutes of the game. The Lady Broncos would hold the lead for the entire half thanks to their strong defensive play. Bronx would take a 21-17 point lead into the break.

The second half played out much like the first half with the Bronx holding and building on their lead. With nine minutes left to play, the Lady Broncos would open up a commanding 37-20 lead. LaGuardia would not give up cutting the lead to 12 with 7 minutes remaining. BCC would come right back opening up a 46-28 lead. While the Red Hawks would try one final comeback, Bronx would hold on and seal the win.

Leading CUNYAC scorer Hivelize Escobar led the team with 21 points. Freshman Trish Toussaint added 12 points of her own. BCC dominated on the glass thanks to Shakia Artist and Sharonda Payne who had 11 and 13 rebounds respectively.

The Lady Broncos will take on the #1 seeded Queensborough Tigers. It is a rematch of last year's CUNYAC Finals which QCC won. BCC looks to grab their first Women's Basketball CUNY title on Friday. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm at BMCC.
