Box Score January 22, 2015 – Bronx, NY
For the second time in as many weeks, the Lady Broncos bested the defending CUNYAC Champion Queensborough CC Tigers, this time at home, by the score of 57-38. The win marked the first time that Bronx has swept the season series from QCC in the CUNYAC era.
Bronx came out of the gate with energy and enthusiasm as they played hard from the start. They were able to jump out to an early 18-12 lead behind a fast break layup by Hivelize Escobar. From there BCC was able to keep the slight lead throughout the half as by intermission the score was 28-22.
The team kept a steady scoring effort throughout the second half but clamped down on the defense by only allowing the Tigers to score 16 points the rest of the way. In addition, Bronx committed just 4 turnovers in the second half to maximize their scoring chances. In the end, the Lady Broncos kept a comfortable margin and cruised to the 19 point win.
Hivelize Escobar had a great all-around game scoring 30 points to go along with 10 rebounds and 4 steals. Angel Mbamalu added 8 and was a force on the boards with 12 rebounds. Shakia Artist got in on the action by contributing 6 points, 6 rebounds and 3 blocks.
With the win, the Lady Broncos raise their record to 8-6 on the season. They return to action on Thursday, January 22nd as they travel to Long Island City, NY to take on LaGuardia CC at 7pm.
