The BCC Women's Basketball team found themselves on the losing end of the contest in the 49th Annual CUNYAC Community College Women's Basketball Championship this past Friday, falling to the Queensborough Tigers 89-39. Their first ever trip to the Championship proved to be a learning experience as they finish as runners up for the tournament.
Freshman Guard
Hivelize Escobar, the CUNYAC Player of the Year, had a strong performance for the Lady Broncos tallying up 23 points, 7 rebounds, and 4 steals. Sophomore Guard
Dorae Murray added 5 points, 6 rebounds, 4 steals, and 1 assist to the Broncos performance.
Queensborough came out strong in the first half; the Lady Tigers would get ahold of a 29 point lead over the Bronx going into the half 44-15. The Lady Broncos hoped to have better luck against the Tigers in the second half, but things wouldn't work out that way for them. The Tigers picked up where they left off in the first half to start the second, and would go on to run away with the game 89-39.
The Lady Broncos will be competing in the NJCAA Division III Region 15 Tournament. BCC is the #8 seed in the NJCAA Division III Region XV Tournament and will be playing against the #1 seed Sullivan County Community College. The Bronx looks for a big win against Sullivan in their third meeting this Tuesday at 7pm at Sullivan.
