Box Score

12/15/2014 – Bronx, NY

The Women's Basketball ended the fall semester on a positive note, defeating the Panthers of BMCC on Saturday, by the score of 58-44.  The victory ensured a winning record for the team before the holiday break for the first since the program's re-launch in 2011.

The first half featured a Lady Bronco offense that put up numbers consistent with their more than 60 point scoring average on the season.  Bronx jumped out to an early 13-5 lead nine minutes into the game and ran their lead to 16 points by doubling up on the Panthers, 32-16 by intermission.

Halftime adjustments by BMCC slowed BCC considerably in the second half.  Bronx fell victim to 12 turnovers which allowed Manhattan to slowly chip away at the lead.  With 5 minutes left in the game, the Panthers cut the lead to 6 points.  From there though, it was the Lady Bronco defense that clamped down, which allowed them to again extend the lead.  By the 1:53 mark, Bronx stretched the lead back to 14 points at 54-40 and was able to keep the margin the rest of the way.

Hivelize Escobar led the team with 22 points, 9 rebounds and 5 steals.  Sharonda Payne had her best game of the year posting 15 points and 13 rebounds for a double-double.  Shakia Artist worked the glass to the tune of 17 rebounds while rejecting 6 shots.

With the win, the Lady Broncos move to 5-3 on the season.  They will now be off until after the new year when they return to action on Sunday, January 4th when they host the Nassau CC Lions at 1pm in the Alumni Gymnasium.
