Box Score 11/8/14 – Bronx, NY
The BCC Men's Basketball team opened their season with a win today, defeating the visiting Falcon Dutchess CC by the score of 70-54. The win made it three straight years under Coach
Sean Kelly that the Broncos won on opening day.
The action started off slow as the score was 14-8 in favor of Bronx at the 10 minute mark. A 3-point goal by Freshman
Jatton Pierce-Bias sparked a 9-2 run to help the Broncos extend their lead. BCC led by as many as 12 in the half but a late 3-point shot by Dutchess cut the lead down to 8 with 4:02 left. The scoring went back and forth from there and at the half the Bronco lead stayed at 8 points at 34-26.
6 minutes into the second half, Pierce-Bias put Bronx up by 10 with another 3-point goal that once again engergized the Broncos. From there they went on a 12-2 run to lead by 20 with 9:08 left to play. Just as the team may have thought they had the game in hand, the Falcons responded with a 12-2 run of their own to cut the lead back down to 10 at 55-45. Dutchess cut the score down to 8 with 2:02 left by hitting yet another 3-pointer, but
Brian Berrios answered back immediately with a 3-point bucket of his own to keep DCC at a comfortable distance.
Jatton Pierce-Bias led all scorers for Bronx with 14 points and added 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Berrios and fellow Freshmen Esvvi Tavares each chipped in with 10 points of their own and
Karius Morris finished the game with 8 points and 9 rebounds.
With the win, the Broncos move to 1-0. They travel to Patterson, NJ on Tuesday, November 11
