Box Score 11/14/14 – Bronx, NY

The Men's Basketball team made it three wins in a row to start the season with an 80-71 win over Bergen CC yesterday.  In an up tempo game, the Bulldogs gave Bronx all they could handle and the team was able to come away with the win thanks to a late game push.

The teams matched baskets for much of the first half but with 5 minutes left in the period, Bergen had opened up a 32-23 point lead.  Freshman Brian Berrios cut the lead to 5 with 3 minutes to go before halftime but when the buzzer s sounded the Bulldogs held a 37-31 margin over the Broncos.

The second half surge was led by Freshman Yohan Almote who scored 14 of his 25 total points during crunch time.  Almonte brought Bronx to within one at 40-39 just 4 minutes in to the second.  A 3-pointer on the next possession by Brian Berrios gave the Broncos their first lead since early in the first.  But Bergen's 3-point attack was just as impressive.  Three straight triple buckets extended their lead to 5points at 54-49.

The Broncos would battle back though, capped off by a steal and a layup by Freshman Karius Morris to tie the game at 60 with 7 minutes left in the game.   Anthony Johnson gave Bronx key minutes off the bench and his runner with 2:50 to go gave Bronx the lead for good at 68-66.  A put-back by Milton McFarquhar made it 74-69 and the team pulled away from there for the win.

High scorer for the game Yohan Almonte 4 rebounds, 4 steals and 7 assists to go with his game-high 25 points.  Brian Berrios added 14 points while Jatton Pierce-Bias had 13 points and 10 rebounds on the night.  Milton McFarquhar was a force on the boards as well pulling down a team-high 15 rebounds.
