Box Score 11/13/14 – Patterson, NJ

The BCC Women's Basketball team started their season in thrilling fashion with a season-opening win vs. Passaic CCC on Tuesday, defeating the Panthers 60-57.  The victory marked the second time in as many seasons that the Lady Broncos started the season off with a win.

The team got off to a slow start in PCCC's gym as the struggled to score the ball.  Bronx scored just 17 points on 21% shooting from the floor.  At the half, BCC trailed by 8, 25-17.

The second half is when the Lady Broncos went to work.  Though they fell behind by as many as 12 points, the team hit their shots with great efficiency hitting at 61% from the field during the half.  The second period surge was led by Freshman Trisha Toussaint and Sophomore Hivelize Escobar.  Though BCC held a slim lead during the final minute, a late foul by the Lady Broncos put the Panthers on the line and allowed them to tie the score at 50.

Though the win couldn't be secured in regulation, BCC pressed on and kept playing hard in the overtime.  Late in the period, Passaic was up by 2 with the ball.  The Bronx defense broke down and just when it seemed the Panthers would have an easy layup to stretch their lead to 4, Toussaint came out of nowhere to make a clean block and swing the possession back to BCC.  Escobar took it from there with some key buckets down the stretch and the team held on for the win.

Escobar led the team in scoring with 21 points.  Toussaint had an outstanding debut adding 16 points, and 6 rebounds of her own.  Fellow Freshman Chloe Walton had 6 points and 11 boards and Sophomore Frances Minaya put up 10 points to go along with 5 assists.

With the win, the Lady Broncos move to 1-0.  The team returns to action at home on Thursday, November 13th for a regional matchup vs. Dutchess CC.  Tip-off is at 6pm in the Alumni Gym.
