Catch A Wave! Bronx Rides Early Lead to Victory

1/17/2014 10:54:00 AM

Box Score 1/17/14 – Bronx, NY

The BCC Lady Broncos got back to .500 last night with a win against the Wave of Kingsborough Community College, 59-39.  The victory is the second in a row for the team, who has moved up standings as of late.

Once again, the scoring attack was led by Hivelize Escobar who put up 35 points and 10 rebounds.  Chelsea Harris was the second leading scorer with 8 points and 12 rebounds.  Dorae Murray had a solid all-around game with 7 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Lady Broncos pulled away early thanks to a steady scoring attack by Escobar and Co.  The team's swarming defense held the Wave to just 11 points in the first half.  By the intermission, Bronx held a commanding 31-11 lead.

For Bronx, the scoring and defense went away in the second half though, as KCC picked up the pace and began to score and defend much better.  Not giving the game away easily, Kingsborough was able to cut the lead to as little as 10 points to move to get back within striking distance.  With under 5 minutes to go in the 2nd, the outcome was still in doubt.  BCC then showed they could score in bunches as the offense got back on track and by the end, they extended the lead back to 20 to cruise to the triumph.

With the win, the Lady Broncos even their season record to 6-6 and 6-5 within Region XV.  The team quickly returns to action on Saturday, January 18th at 1pm as they play host to Dutchess CC in the Alumni Gymnasium.
