Broncos capture victories in two out of three games against Thomas Nelson Community College

The Bronx Community College baseball team finalized a successful three-game series against the Gators of Thomas Nelson Community College earlier today, splitting a pair of contests by losing the first game by a score of 9-4 before turning around and winning the nightcap, 8-3. Yesterday, the Broncos picked up a thrilling 7-6 win over the Gators. Bronx Community College's record on the season is now 2-2.
 
In yesterday's 7-6 victory over Thomas Nelson Community College, the Broncos showed tremendous grit by battling back from a 5-1 deficit after four innings of play. Bronx Community College plated four runs in the top of the fifth to tie the game at five apiece, before pushing across two more in the top of the sixth to catapult ahead by a score of 7-5. The Gators notched a run in the bottom of the sixth to slice the Broncos' advantage to a single run, but that would be the final run that would be earned by either side, as Bronx community College held on for a 7-6 win.
 

Raudy Alberto Acosta put forth a tremendous effort at the dish for the Broncos in a winning effort, as he homered twice (including a Grand Slam) in five plate appearances while scoring a pair of runs and driving in five. Derek Galvez homered and drove in two runs as well, and Ariel Irving Lora added a double and single while scoring a run.
 

Yunior Munoz earned the victory in relief for the Broncos, as he hurled three and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs but only one earned while walking a batter and striking out for. Bronx Community College's original starter – Crioni Brazoban – lasted just one and two-thirds innings, allowing three earned runs and three hits while issuing three free passes and striking out four. Kevin Gerson earned a save for Bronx Community College, hurling the final two-thirds in the ninth inning and walking one batter while striking out one.
 
In Saturday's 9-4 loss in game one of the doubleheader against Thomas Nelson Community College, the Broncos and Gators were tied at a run apiece until the bottom of the third when the Gators would break the contest open by plating seven runs to grab an 8-1 edge. Bronx Community College found itself playing catch-up for the rest of the game, eventually falling by five runs.
 
Despite the defeat,
Steven Santana launched a homerun, and Christian Cedeno reached base twice, singling and drawing a walk in two plate appearances. Galvez was the starting pitcher in the game, and he took the loss, hurling two and one-third innings, allowing six runs (none earned) while allowing three hits, walking two, and striking out one.
 
For the Gators, Brett Moore picked up a hit in each of his plate appearances, singling three times while scoring a run and driving in two. Tyler Hauser singled, scored a pair of runs, and picked up two RBIs. Montrell McLean pitched all seven innings for the Gators, allowing four runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out three.
 
In the nightcap of today's doubleheader – the Broncos and Gators were tied at three apiece until the top of the eighth inning when Bronx Community College's offense would explode for five runs. With that offensive outburst, the Broncos grabbed an 8-3 lead, and that would end up being the final score.
 
Santana singled twice, scored two runs, drove in two runs, walked twice, and stole a base in the Broncos' Game two victory.
Kevin Almonte added a pair of singles in five plate appearances, as well.
 
Lora was the starting pitcher for Bronx Community College in Game 2, and he was masterful, tossing six and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs (just one earned) while scattering five hits, walking three, and striking out four.
Aaron Bonilla Suarez recorded the final four outs for the Broncos, not allowing a baserunner.
 
Despite the loss for Thomas Nelson Community College, Ben Hoare singled twice.
 
The Bronx Community College Broncos will now return to the Bronx with a chance to play in front of their home fans, as the team will play its home-opener against ASA College this Thursday. The game will take place at Ohio Field, with start time scheduled for 3:
00pm.
