The Bronx Community College baseball team recently suffered a sweep at the hands of Monroe University-Bronx in NJCAA Region 15 action, falling to the Express by scores of 10-0 (six innings, Flowers Park), 14-3 (five innings, Ohio Field), and 4-1 (Ohio Field). With that aforementioned output, the Broncos are now 2-4 on the 2026 campaign, while the Express improved to 7-7.

March 26, 2026: Express 10, Broncos 0 (Six Innings – Mercy Rule)

In Bronx's loss to Monroe University-Bronx this past Thursday, the Broncos were only able to manage three walks – one each by Luis Villaman, Luis Torres, and Eduardo Flores-Barrientos.

Abel Acosta Vasquez (0-1) took the loss on the hill for the Broncos, hurling just 1.2 innings and facing eight batters, allowing one earned run on two hits while walking a pair of batters, hitting one, and striking out two. Juan Santos relieved Vasquez, tossing 3.1 innings and allowing five earned runs on five hits while hitting two batters, issuing a walk, and striking out six.

The Express was led offensively by Joshua Osorio, as the standout went 3-for-3, registered two RBIs, drew a walk, and stole a base. Juan Carlos Salcedo dented home plate three times and singled. Pablo Aquino scored twice and worked a pair of walks. Overall, the Express collected nine hits, stole six bases, and earned five walks on the afternoon.

Monroe University-Bronx's Adrian Hernandez (1-0) tossed a no-hitter for the hosts, pitching a complete-game (six innings) and facing just three batters more than the minimum, allowing no runs and issuing three walks while striking out five.

The NJCAA Region 15 clash was scoreless heading to the bottom of the second. With a runner on third base and one man retired, Anthony Sanchez hit a sacrifice fly that chased home Salcedo to give the Express a 1-0 advantage. The hosts added to their lead in the bottom of the third, when Osorio's RBI single drove in Robert Herrera, boosting Monroe University-Bronx's advantage to a pair of runs (2-0).

Bronx's best opportunity to break through came in the fourth inning. The Broncos had loaded the bases as Cristian Calderon reached on a two-base error, and Villaman and Torres had reached via walks. Unfortunately, the Broncos weren't able to bust through, as Monroe University-Bronx maintained its modest 2-0 edge.

In the bottom of the fourth, the Express had runners at second and third with one man retired. Derek Lebron laced a two-RBI single to increase Monroe's kead to 4-0. Osorio and Elijah Andino each produced an RBI apiece in the frame to give the Express a commanding 6-0 edge.

Later, in the bottom of the sixth, with the host still in full control with a 6-0 advantage, Andino picked up an RBI on a groundout, with Aquino scampering home, to make it 7-0 in favor of Monroe University-Bronx. Adrian Nunez then came up with two men retired, and recorded a double which scored Osorio to make it 8-0. Nunez ended up securing third base on a fielding error, and shortly later, scored on a wild pitch for Monroe's ninth run.

The game finalized when Abraham Joaquin Taveras hit a ground ball to third base, but newcomer Lenox Rondon committed a fielding error, allowing Salcedo to score the 10th and mercy rule-inducing run to give the Express the victory.

March 28, 2026: Express 14, Broncos 3 (Five Innings – Mercy Rule)

In the Broncos' game one loss to the Express at Ohio Field this past Saturday, veteran Jason Espinoza picked up Bronx's only hit on the day, which was a two-RBI double. Rondon reached base twice for the game, drawing two walks and scoring a run, and Torres hit a sacrifice fly for the hosts.

On the hill for Bronx, Adrian Pena (0-1) drew the start and took the loss, allowing six runs (five earned) on three walks and two hits. He also hit two batters on the afternoon. Albert Melendez and Jhouerling Gonzalez yielded four earned runs apiece over the final three innings of play.

Offensively for the Express, Monroe University-Bronx earned five extra base hits, including one from Aquino, as he homered, singled, score a run, drove in three, and stole a base. Lebron doubled, singled, stole a base, and picked up three RBI. Salcedo also went yard, picking up two RBI, denting home plate once. Andino singled, scored a run, drove in two, and was hit by a pitch.

Yevian Delgado earned the start and tossed 2.2 innings, allowing three earned runs on one hit while walking four, hitting a batter, and striking out five. Reliever Michael Mateo (1-0) earned the victory in relief, as he hurled 2.1 hitless innings, allowing just one walk while striking out four.

Espinoza put the Broncos on top in the bottom of the first inning with a two-RBI double to deep left field that scored Rondon and Calderon. The Express responded in the top of the second inning with three two-out runs, courtesy of a two-RBI single by Lebron, and a throwing error by Villaman that allowed Abraham Joaquin Taveras to scamper home. The Broncos went scoreless in the bottom half of the frame, and the Express held a 3-2 advantage after two complete innings.

Monroe University-Bronx broke the game open in the top of the third, denting home plate eight times to boost its advantage to 11-2. The scoring barrage started when Osorio and Robert Herrera executed a double steal on the bases, with an error allowing Herrera to score. Adrian Nunez followed that up with an RBI double, and Salcedo registered a RBI groundout afterwards, making it 6-2 Monroe. The next five runs were registered via RBI doubles by Sanchez and Lebron, a two-RBI single by Aquino, and a RBI single by Andino.

Bronx got one run back in the bottom of the third inning on a sacrifice fly by Torres, but Salcedo and Aquino hit solo homers in the fourth and fifth, respectively, and Andino hit a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it 14-3 in favor of Monroe University-Bronx.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, the Broncos failed to score the necessary two runs to keep the game alive, as the mercy rule triggered, giving the Express an 11-run triumph (14-3).

March 28, 2026: Express 4, Broncos 1

In game two of the doubleheader on Saturday, Bronco Eduardo Flores-Barrientos registered a game-high two hits – both singles. He also reached base a third time by drawing a walk. Leon registered Bronx's only extra base hit for the game, notching a double while also getting issued a free pass. Torres' sacrifice fly produced the Broncos' only run of the game.

Bronx ace Anshel Novelo (1-1) put forth a gutsy performance for the hosts, tossing a complete game (seven innings), allowing four earned runs on six hits while showing impeccable control, issuing just one free pass and hitting a batter while striking out six.

After collecting 11 hits in the opening game Saturday, Monroe University-Bronx earned just six in the second contest, but the Express made them count. Aquino hit a long homerun, while Herrera earned a RBI triple. Salcedo recorded a RBI single and a stolen base, and Anthony Sanchez recorded a RBI single as well.

Frangel Rodriguez (3-1) earned the victory on the hill for the visitors, tossing six frames and allowing just one earned run on five hits while walking four, hitting a batter, and striking out seven. Sanchez earned the save, tossing a scoreless inning and striking out a batter.

Both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, before the Express manufactured a run in the second. Salcedo singled and then proceeded to swipe second base. He would eventually come around to dent home plate on Sanchez's RBI single to give Monroe University-Bronx a 1-0 advantage. That score would remain the same until the top of the fifth.

In the fifth, Aquino hit a towering homerun to extend the Express' lead to 2-0. Lebron then singled, stole second base, and then scored on Herrera's RBI triple. Herrera later scored on a sacrifice fly by Salcedo to bump the Blue and Gold's advantage to 4-0.

Bronx got a run back in the bottom of the fifth via a sacrifice fly by Torres, but the Broncos weren't able to push any more runs across in that frame.

Later, in the bottom of the seventh, Monroe Bronx-University's Sanchez entered the game with an opportunity to earn a save. With a runner on first and two outs, Sanchez got Lenox Rondon to ground into the fielder's choice to end the contest, giving the Express an NJCAA Region 15 sweep.
