After more than 40 years of dedicated service, countless lives impacted, and a legacy that will stand the test of time, Adolfo DeJesus has announced his retirement as Head Coach of the Bronx Community College Baseball program.
For over four decades, DeJesus has been the heart and soul of Bronx Community College Baseball, transforming the Broncos into one of the most respected programs in the City University of New York Athletic Conference (CUNYAC) and NJCAA Region XV. His remarkable career concludes with an impressive list of accomplishments that few coaches can match.
Under his leadership, the Broncos captured 13 CUNY Championships, including back-to-back conference titles in 2025 and 2026 to cap an extraordinary coaching career. DeJesus guided Bronx Community College to nearly 550 victories and multiple appearances in the NJCAA Region XV Tournament, consistently establishing the Broncos as one of the region's premier programs.
His success extended well beyond conference competition. In 1995, DeJesus led Bronx Community College to the NJCAA World Series, one of the defining moments in program history and a testament to his ability to develop championship-caliber teams.
A former standout player at Bronx Community College and his alma mater, Lehman College, DeJesus brought a unique understanding of the student-athlete experience to his coaching philosophy. Throughout his illustrious career, he mentored several Regional Players of the Year, helped develop numerous Major League Baseball prospects, and provided opportunities for hundreds of student-athletes to pursue both their academic and athletic aspirations.
His achievements earned widespread recognition throughout the years, including multiple selections as Region XV Coach of the Year and CUNYAC Coach of the Year. Most recently, he was named the 2026 CUNY Community College Coach of the Year, a fitting honor in the final season of an unforgettable career.
While the wins, championships, and accolades tell part of the story, those who know DeJesus best understand that his greatest impact was never measured by statistics.
Beyond the baseball diamond, DeJesus embodied the mission of Bronx Community College. His teams annually sponsored their own hydration station at "Run the Bronx," the College's signature 5K/10K road race benefiting student scholarships. He also served the institution as a Senior College Laboratory Technician within the Health, Physical Education, and Recreation Department, dedicating himself to the success of the campus community both on and off the field.
As news of his retirement spread, colleagues throughout the College reflected on the profound influence he has had on generations of students.
"Coach DeJesus's tenure as head baseball coach has been nothing short of remarkable. He built a legacy that extends far beyond the scoreboard. While the many championships and competitive success will always be an important part of his story, his greatest impact is reflected in the countless students he guided and supported throughout their time here at BCC and for years past graduation," said Jessenia Paoli, Esq., Interim Assistant Vice President for Student Success.
Dionne Dodson, Director of Athletics, praised Coach DeJesus' unwavering commitment to the institution and its students.
"For more than four decades, Coach DeJesus has represented the very best of BCC Athletics. He helped generations of student-athletes grow not only as players but as leaders who have succeeded far beyond the field. That kind of impact is rare, and it will remain part of the fabric of this community for many years to come."
"We thank Coach DeJesus for his leadership and genuine love for our students, BCC Athletics, and the entire campus community. He is the gold standard for all BCC Head Coaches."
Dr. Manny Lopez, Interim Vice President of Student Success, echoed those sentiments while reflecting on the lasting impact of Coach DeJesus' legacy.
"Coach DeJesus has done an extraordinary job and built a remarkable legacy over 41 years of service to Bronx Community College and its student-athletes. The impact he has had on generations of students will be felt for years to come."
As Coach DeJesus steps away from the dugout for the final time, he leaves behind much more than a championship baseball program. He leaves a legacy built on mentorship, dedication, service, and an unwavering belief in the power of education and athletics to transform lives.
His name will forever be synonymous with Bronx Community College Baseball, and his influence will continue to be felt through the countless former student-athletes, coaches, colleagues, and community members whose lives he touched throughout an extraordinary career.
Though his tenure as head coach has come to an end, the impact of Adolfo DeJesus on Bronx Community College will endure for generations to come.
