Broncos finalize 2026 campaign with losses to Monroe University-Bronx and Suffolk in NJCAA Region XV Tournament

The Broncos' baseball team wrapped up its 2026 season on Thursday, falling in consecutive games in the NJCAA Region XV Championship Tournament to No. 1 seeded Monroe University-Bronx 11-0 (five innings), and No. 3 seeded Suffolk, 11-6. With that two-game output, Bronx finalized its season at 10-16.

Game 1 of the Day – Monroe-Bronx Express 11, Bronx Broncos 4 (5 Innings)

Monroe scored once in the opening inning before erupting for five runs in the second. Capitalizing on defensive miscues and timely hitting, Monroe built a 6-0 advantage through two frames and never looked back. The hosts added two more runs in the third and three in the fourth to seal the five-inning win.

Juan Carlos Salcedo hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the first to give the tournament's top seed a 1-0 advantage.

The Express' bats broke out in the bottom of the second with five runs in the frame to give the top seed a commanding 6-0 benefit. The top highlight of the inning was Adrian Nunez's two-RBI base hit. Robert Herrera also added an RBI single as the Express' offense stayed relentless early.

In the home half of the third, Pablo Aquino boosted Monroe's edge to seven runs with an RBI single. Shortly thereafter, Aquino swiped second base, and on the throw down Ramses Gonzalez scampered home from third base to give the Express a commanding 8-0 edge.

Andino registered an RBI single in the bottom of the fourth, followed by Gonzalez picking up a pair of RBI's to push Monroe's advantage to 11-0.

In the top of the fifth, the Broncos had runners on the corners and only one out. Both runners would end up getting picked off, however, as the game would finalize on a rarely-seen double play.

Bronx Community College managed just three hits in the contest. Luis Villaman, Jason Espinoza, and Juan Santos each recorded a hit for the Broncos, while Adrian Pena and Lenox Rondon reached base via walks in the opening inning.

Monroe's offense was led by Ramses Gonzalez, who went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs. Adrian Nunez added two RBIs, while Pablo Aquino and Robert Herrera each collected two hits and drove in a run. David Echavarria scored three times as Monroe finished with 13 hits overall.

On the mound, Frangel Rodriguez delivered a complete-game shutout for Monroe, allowing only three hits while striking out three and walking three across five innings.

Anshel Novelo (2-5) took the loss for Bronx Community College after pitching four innings. Despite striking out six batters, the Broncos were hurt by four defensive errors that contributed to several unearned runs.

Game 2 of the Day – Suffolk Sharks 11, Bronx Broncos 6

Trying to stave off elimination, the Broncos jumped out early with two runs in the top of the first inning, but Suffolk answered immediately by denting home plate four times in the bottom half, and never relinquished the lead.

Suffolk added single runs in the second and third before tacking on two more in both the seventh and eighth innings to secure the victory.

Bronx finished with six runs on nine hits while committing three errors. Suffolk collected 11 hits and played error-free baseball.

Offensively for Bronx, Luis Villaman led the way with a 3-for-5 performance, notching a double and scoring three runs. Rondon had another strong game at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs, including a home run. Justin Perez Salcedo and Jhouerling Gonzalez each recorded a double.

Pitcher Abel Acosta Vasquez (0-2) took the loss for Bronx after allowing six runs, five earned, over two innings. Anderson Puello provided five innings of relief, allowing three runs while striking out three. Albert Melendez worked the final inning.

Bronx totaled five RBIs and drew three walks but struck out 11 times in the loss.
