Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Bronx eliminated from NJCAA Division III Women's Basketball Tournament with first round loss to Lazers

The Broncos' women's basketball team was eliminated from the NJCAA Division III Tournament on Wednesday, as Bronx was defeated by Onondaga Community College by a score of 72-55. The contest took place at the Brownwood Coliseum in Brownwood, Texas. With the defeat, the Broncos dipped to a mark of 18-6 on the 2025-2026 campaign, while the Lazers improved to a mark of 24-4.

Akela Robertson paced the Broncos this afternoon, connecting on seven of her 13 attempts from the floor, finishing with a team-high 17 points. She also snatched two rebounds while swiping a pair of steals. Destiny Davis returned after missing one game with an injury, as she contributed 12 points while tying for the game-high of six assists, collecting three rebounds, and adding two steals, and Destiny Dickerson scored 10 points (5-11 FG). Finally, it was Kolonnie Green posting a double-double with game-highs of 14 rebounds, 12 blocks, and seven points. Her seven steals also tied for the game-high.

The Lazers got a dominant performance from Jada Crocker, as the standout hit on 13 of 19 attempts from the floor, scoring a game-high 28 points while snatching a game-high eight rebounds. Kassidy Jones and Giselle Allen Cruz netted 11 points apiece, with Jones snatching three rebounds for Onondaga. Mary Hamer put together a nice all-around performance, scoring six points, tying for the game-high of six assists, adding five steals, and swatting a team-best four blocks, and Lundyn McCutchen finalized her afternoon with five points while tying for the game-high of seven steals. She also snatched six rebounds and added four assists.

In a very competitive first quarter of action, the teams exchanged the lead five times, and neither squad took more than a four point advantage. The Lazers held a 17-15 advantage over the Broncos at the conclusion of 10 minutes of action.

Onondaga led 22-19 with 7:55 remaining until halftime, before putting together an 11-2 run over a span of 3:07 to bump its advantage to 12 (33-21). During that aforementioned run, Allen Cruz led the way for her squad with seven points, connecting on three straight shots in the process (a triple and a pair of two-point buckets). Bronx responded with a mini 5-0 run thanks to a converted freebee by Akela Robertson, and a hoop apiece by Davis and Green, to pull to within seven (33-26) with 50 seconds remaining in the first half. The Broncos went into the locker room at halftime trailing 35-28.

With 5:56 remaining in the third quarter, the Broncos were still within striking distance of the Lazers, trailing 45-37, but Onondaga put together a 10-0 run over a span of 2:02 to take a commanding 18-point advantage (55-37). Bronx was able to get to within 14 twice in the latter stages of the quarter, but Aunnie Stier converted on a layup with five seconds left in the period, as the Lazers took a 61-45 edge into the final period of play.

A drained triple by Jones with 3:55 remaining gave Onondaga its biggest lead of the game (70-47), all but icing the victory for the Lazers. The Broncos finished the game on an 8-2 run (two buckets by Akela Robertson, and one apiece by Green and Destiny Dickerson), but it was too little, too late, as Onondaga went on to win the game by 17 (72-55).

Onondaga converted on 41 percent of its attempts from the floor (32-78), while the Broncos earned a conversion rate of just 34.4 percent (22-64). The Lazers held a 47-39 edge on the glass, while also dishing 21 assists to Bronx's 18. Each team recorded 18 steals apiece, and the Broncos held a healthy 14-7 advantage in blocked shots.

The Broncos' 2025-2026 season will continue for one more contest despite today's loss, as Bronx will take on Rowan College of Gloucester County in a consolation contest tomorrow morning. Start-time at the Brownwood Coliseum is scheduled for 11:00am Eastern time, 10:00am Central time.
