For the first time since the 2014-2015 season, the Broncos' women's basketball team has reached the top of the CUNY Community College mountaintop, yesterday defeating rival Kingsborough in the championship contest by a score of 79-57. The game took place at the Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York, NY. The victory for Bronx was its 11th in a row, keeping them unbeaten since the turn of the calendar year, while the Wave dipped to 13-7 on the season.

Akira Robertson (eight points, three steals) and Yahannis Martinez (seven points, seven rebounds, game-high five assists, three steals) also played key roles in Bronx's triumph.

Aneiyah Alexander was the primary contributor for the Wave, as she posted a double-double with a game-high 20 points, and a team-best 14 rebounds. Mariana Richards contributed 10 points, seven rebounds, a pair of assists, and two blocked shots, and Justinna Boatwright added nine points, eight rebounds, a team-high six steals, and three assists. Finally, Olivia Eugene netted nine points and dished four assists.

Bronx trailed for just a 29-second span (Kingsborough led 3-2) before freshman Destiny Davis gave the champions the lead for good by draining a triple to put the Broncos ahead 5-3. Later in the quarter, with 1:55 remaining, the Broncos bumped their edge to seven (18-11) on a drained bucket by Green. The Wave scored the final three points of the quarter courtesy of a made layup by Richards and a converted freebee by Emily Pinnock-Jarret. The Broncos led 18-14 after 10 minutes of action.

The Broncos started the second quarter by rattling off six consecutive points, courtesy of a hoop by Matos, and consecutive converted baskets by Akela Robertson. That gave Bronx its first double-digit advantage of the night, a 10-point lead (24-14), with 7:24 to go until halftime. Later in the quarter, with 4:13 left, a drained jumper by Green have the Broncos their biggest lead of the first half (32-16), a 16-point cushion, with 4:13 remaining in the stanza.

Eugene, Boatwright, Richards, and Aneiyah Alexander each scored a bucket during that run for the Wave. Bronx then scored four points inside the final minute of the half to take a 37-24 edge into the locker room at halftime.

The closest Kingsborough was able to get was nine points down (58-49), before the Broncos used a ferocious 21-8 push to end the game, winning it by 22 (79-57), and sending the team into a celebratory frenzy once the buzzer sounded. Matos netted six points during that final push for the hosts.
