Men's Soccer Closes Regular Season With Draw Against Suffolk Before Falling to Nassau on Sophomore Day

The Bronx Community College Broncos men's soccer team wrapped up its 2026 regular-season schedule with a pair of home matches at Ohio Field, playing Suffolk Community College to a 1-1 draw on Monday before suffering a 3-0 defeat to Nassau Community College on Tuesday.

The Broncos opened the week with a hard-fought tie against the Suffolk Sharks on Oct. 19. After a scoreless first half, Bronx broke through in the 66th minute when Leiver Palacio found the back of the net off an assist from Fdu Eselecha Ndemalule to give the Broncos a 1-0 advantage.

Bronx maintained its lead until the 86th minute, when Suffolk's Gonzalo Garcia scored the equalizer. The Broncos finished with four shots on goal, while goalkeeper Ramon Caldera recorded four saves in 90 minutes of action.

On Tuesday, the Broncos returned to Ohio Field to face the Nassau Lions in their regular-season finale. Before kickoff, the Bronx Community College Department of Athletics recognized sophomores Evans Obeng, Hanif Soule, Santiago Vazquez and Kevin Briones for their contributions to the program. Each student-athlete received a commemorative action-shot picture frame presented by Associate Director of Athletics Michael Loeffler.

Nassau took control in the first half, scoring three times to establish a commanding lead. Edgar Velazquez opened the scoring in the 31st minute off an assist from Makhai Noel. Noel added a goal of his own in the 35th minute, assisted by Ismael Garcia, before Kevin Martinez capped the first-half scoring in the 42nd minute, with Garcia providing his second assist of the contest.

Despite the early deficit, Bronx continued to battle throughout the second half but was unable to find the back of the net. The Broncos recorded six shots overall, including three on target, while Caldera added three saves after entering at halftime. Soule also made four saves during the opening 45 minutes.

With the regular season complete, the Broncos now turn their attention to the postseason. Bronx Community College will return to action Saturday in the quarterfinals of the 2026 NJCAA Region XV Tournament, where the Broncos will face an opponent to be determined.
