Broncos finalize 2026 campaign with NJCAA Region XV Tournament quarterfinal round loss to Nassau

The Bronx Community College Broncos saw their 2026 men's soccer season come to an end Saturday afternoon, falling to the Nassau Community College Lions, 3-1, in the quarterfinal round of the 2026 NJCAA Region XV Men's Soccer Tournament at Mitchel Field.

The Broncos (4-6-3) battled the Lions (13-0-1) throughout the opening half, with the teams heading into the intermission tied at 1-1.

Nassau struck first in the 31st minute when Edgar Velazquez converted a pass from Kevin Reynoso Perez to give the Lions a 1-0 advantage.

Bronx responded just before halftime. David Santa drew a penalty kick and converted in the 45th minute, leveling the score at 1-1 and giving the Broncos renewed momentum heading into the second half.

The Lions regained the lead less than three minutes after the break. Velazquez scored his second goal of the contest in the 48th minute, finishing a cross from Christian Cabrera to put Nassau ahead, 2-1.

The Broncos' challenge became more difficult in the 53rd minute when Santa received a red card, leaving Bronx to play with 10 men for the remainder of the match.

Nassau capitalized on its numerical advantage in the 60th minute, as Raymond Zavala found the back of the net off an assist from Alexis Gomez to extend the Lions' lead to 3-1.

Bronx continued to compete down the stretch, but Nassau's defense held firm to secure the quarterfinal victory and end the Broncos' postseason run.

Goalkeeper Hanif Soule recorded seven saves for Bronx, facing 10 Nassau shots-on-goal. The Lions also held a commanding 13-0 advantage in corner kicks.

The defeat concludes the Broncos' 2026 campaign following their regular-season finale against Nassau earlier in the week. Despite the season-ending result, Bronx battled against one of Region XV's top sides, scoring against a Lions team that entered the tournament unbeaten.
