Broncos defeated by Caimans in final home contest of 2025-2026 campaign; Four sophomores saluted prior to contest

The Broncos' men's basketball team suffered a loss in its regular season home finale on Thursday evening, falling to the Caimans of Hostos by a score of 115-64 in CUNY action. The game took place at the Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx. With the defeat, Bronx dipped to a mark of 0-22 on the 2025-2026 campaign (0-8 CUNY), while the Caimans improved to 12-10 (7-2 CUNY).

Prior to the contest, the BCC Department of Athletics took a few moments to honor sophomores Sebastian Brito, Jacob Ortiz, Timothaeus Graham, and Alexander Hattel in a show of appreciation for their dedication to the institution's women's basketball program. Each sophomore was presented with an action-shot picture frame. The sophomores gathered with their coaches and teammates for a ceremonious photo prior to tip-off.

Despite the loss for the Broncos, Bryan Teixeira finalized his evening with team-highs of 14 points and four assists. He also collected four rebounds and blocked a shot. Graham contributed 13 points, five rebounds, an assist, and a steal, and Ortiz connected on all five of his free throw attempts, finishing with 10 points and two rebounds on the night.

Seven players scored in double figures for the Caimans, with four of those players registering double-doubles. Harry Bonilla (9-10 FT) scored a game-high 22 points, snatched 12 rebounds, and led all players with seven steals and five assists. Omar Drammeh finished with 20 points and a game-high 13 rebounds, and Shateek Harris added 18 points, 10 rebounds, five steals, and four assists. Other players scoring in double figures were Matthew Tolendo (13 points, four rebounds, two blocks, two steals), Angel Zabala (12 points, four rebounds, two assists), and Nygel Ready (11 points, 10 rebounds, game-high eight blocks, three assists, and three steals).

The CUNY clash stayed competitive only for the early stages (the opening 4:49), as the Broncos took a 10-8 advantage after trailing 3-0. Graham, Hattel, Ortiz, Teixeira, and Said Martin each accounted for two points in the early going for Bronx. After that, however, Hostos dominated the remainder of the contest. The Caimans put together a 14-0 run over a span of 5:09 to catapult ahead by a score of 23-10. Zabala led the way for the visitors during that aforementioned spurt by scoring six points.

Later, with 6:52 remaining in the half, a converted triple by Graham brought the Broncos to within seven (29-22), but the Caimans would finish the half on a tear, outscoring the hosts 25-7 to take a commanding 54-29 advantage into the locker room at halftime. Hostos shot 50 percent during that big run, connecting on 10 out of 20 shot attempts.

In the second half, the Caimans led by more than 30 points for the remaining 15:31 of action. Hostos would build a lead as large as 52 points, before eventually winning the contest by 51.

The Caimans connected on a sensational 46.2 percent of their attempts from the floor (42-91), while Bronx drained just 21 of its 76 shot attempts (27.6 percent), Hostos dominated the glass, snatching 66 rebounds to the Broncos' 45, and the Caimans also held advantages in assists (23-14), steals (20-9), and blocked shots (11-2). The visitors won the turnover battle, committing 17 miscues, while the Broncos finished with 28.

The Broncos will return to action on Tuesday evening, as the squad will travel to the RFK Gymnasium in Bayside, NY to battle the Tigers of Queensborough in another CUNY contest. Start-time is scheduled for 7:00pm.
