Women's basketball stays unblemished in calendar year 2026 with blowout victories over Sharks, Falcons

The Broncos' women's basketball team continued its surge in recent days, staying unbeaten in calendar year 2026, and winning their fifth and sixth straight games, defeating the Suffolk Sharks in Selden, NY by a score of 63-27 this past Saturday, before downing the Falcons of Dutchess by a score of 77-56 last night at the Alumni Gymnasium. With that two-game output, Bronx is now 13-4 on the 2025-2026 campaign.

January 17, 2026: Broncos 63, Sharks 27

In the victory for Bronx, veteran Yahannis Martinez led her squad, scoring a game-high 15 points to go along with five rebounds, a game-high five assists, and three steals. Versatile freshman forward Kolonnie Green netted 14 points while posting game-highs of eight steals and five swatted shots. She also snatched five boards, as well. Akira Robertson finalized her afternoon with 10 points, five rebounds, and a pair of assists, and Destiny Davis finished with 10 points, five steals, four rebounds, and two dimes.

Despite the loss for Suffolk, Ashley Peralta recorded team-highs of 12 points and six rebounds. Additionally, Jasmine Beverly scored six points while collecting five rebounds, and Emily Robinson finalized her afternoon with five points and five rebounds.

Bronx held a 13-4 advantage after 10 minutes of action, and a 32-12 edge at halftime. The Broncos continued to put significant distance between themselves and the Sharks in the second half, outscoring the hosts 18-7 in the third, and 13-8 in the final period to account for the 36-point margin of victory (63-27).

The Broncos earned a shooting percentage of 36 percent for the night (27-75), but the team did convert on 100 percent at the stripe, draining all eight attempts there. On the flip side, Suffolk only knocked down 22.4 percent of its attempts (11-49), while misfiring on five out of 12 shots from the stripe (41.7 percent).
 
On the glass, Bronx held a decent 36-29 advantage. The Broncos also held edges in assists (13-7), steals (24-6), and blocked shots (6-4). Bronx won the turnover battle, committing just 10 miscues, while the Sharks had 27.

January 20, 2026: Broncos 77, Falcons 56

In Bronx's dominant win over Dutchess, five players scored in double figures, including Green, as she scored a team-high 20 points, tied for the team-high of nine rebounds, led all players with six steals, and led all Broncos with four swatted shots. Destiny Dickerson contributed 16 points, five rebounds, and two dimes, and Martinez finalized her evening with 12 points, six rebounds, four assists, and two steals. Davis nearly posted a double-double, finishing with 10 points, a game-high nine assists, five rebounds, and four steals, and Robertson also fell just short of a double-double, as she scored 10 points, collected nine rebounds, and swiped two steals.

Despite the loss for the Falcons, Eva Bertiz put forth an excellent performance, posting game-highs of 21 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 blocked shots. She also led her team with three steals. Kamira Sutton finalized her evening with 14 points, six boards, and four assists, and Joey Roach nearly posted a double-double with eight points, 10 boards, and two steals.

Holding a modest 6-5 advantage just 2:33 into the game, the Broncos closed the first quarter with a huge surge, outscoring the visitors 28-2 for the remainder of the period to take a commanding 34-7 advantage after 10 minutes of action. Davis and Martinez were the primary contributors offensively during that charge, netting eight apiece, while Green added six, Dickerson netted four, and Angelina Gonzalez contributed a bucket.

Dutchess used an 18-4 run over the opening 6:59 of the second quarter to slice the Broncos' advantage to 13 (38-25) with 3:01 remaining until halftime. Sutton was locked in during that aforementioned run, leading the way with eight points. Bronx responded with a 10-2 run to close the half (highlighted by Green's eight points) to take a 48-27 edge into the locker room at halftime.

The Broncos dominated defensively in the third quarter, forcing 10 Falcons turnovers, registering eight steals, and allowing just three Dutchess field goals. For the period, Bronx outscored the opposition 19-10, taking a healthy 67-37 advantage into the final period.

In the fourth quarter, the hosts held an advantage of 25 or more points for the opening 8:08, before eventually going on to win the contest by 21 (77-56).

Bronx won the game despite shooting a lower percentage than the visitors, as the Broncos connected on just 31 out of 102 shot attempts (30.4 percent). On the flip side, Dutchess earned a conversion rate of 36.1 percent (22-61). The Broncos held a modest 62-56 advantage on the glass, while also swiping 20 steals compared to just seven for the visitors. The hosts held a 24-13 edge in assists, but the visitors recorded 11 swatted shots compared to four for the Broncos.
