Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

SUNY Sullivan uses three-point barrage (12-20, 60 percent) to defeat Broncos convincingly at Alumni Gymnasium

The Broncos' men's basketball team dropped a non-conference game on Tuesday evening, falling to the Generals of SUNY Sullivan by a score of 103-68. The contest took place at the Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx. With the defeat, the Broncos dipped to a mark of 0-16 on the 2025-2026 campaign, while the Generals improved to 6-11 on the year.

Despite the loss for Bronx, veteran Alexander Hattel led the way for his squad a team-high 13 points to go along with five rebounds and three assists. Timothaeus Graham added 10 points and three boards, and Said Martin finalized his evening with nine points and a team-high eight rebounds. Sebastian Brito contributed eight points and three assists, and Bryan Teixeira scored seven points, snatched seven boards, and registered a game-high four steals.

Tomas Hernandez paced the victorious Generals, as he posted game-highs of 25 points, 14 rebounds, and six blocked shots. Additionally, he recorded three assists and tallied one steal. Xavier Beckford connected on five triples, finishing with 23 points, seven assists, five boards, and a steal, and Hassan Niang netted 18 points while collecting a pair of boards. Quentin Richardson posted a double-double with 16 points, a game-high assists, four rebounds, and three steals, and David Fowler finalized his evening with 10 points, four rebounds, and a pair of assists.

The visitors trailed for all of 24 seconds in this game, falling behind 2-0 on Graham's bucket just 21 seconds in. A Richardson trifecta gave the Generals a 3-2 advantage, a lead SUNY Sullivan wouldn't relinquish for the entirety of the contest. The Generals were stellar shooting the basketball in the opening half, draining 10 triples (10-13, 76.2 percent) and connecting on 62.5 percent of their attempts overall for the period (20-32). SUNY Sullivan led by as many as 29 in the session (49-20) before taking a 54-30 advantage into the locker room at halftime.

SUNY Sullivan started the second half by rattling off the first 10 points, courtesy of six points from Niang, and two apiece from Beckford and Richardson, as the Generals increased their advantage to 34 (64-30). Later, the visitors led 69-34, before a 9-0 Broncos run (thanks to five points from Bito, and two apiece from Martin and Ortiz) sliced SUNY Sullivan's advantage to 26 (69-43) with 14:16 remaining. Unfortunately for Bronx, that would be the closest it would get, as the visitors went back up by 36, before eventually capturing the contest by 35.

SUNY Sullivan connected on a tremendous 54.7 percent of its shot attempts (41-75), and 60 percent of its launches from downtown (12-20). On the flip side, the Broncos converted on just 27 of 83 shot attempts (32.5 percent), while only draining four of 29 shots from downtown (13.8 percent).

Bronx lost the game despite out-rebounding SUNY Sullivan 50-47. The Generals piled 30 assists to the Broncos' 15, and SUNY Sullivan held an 11-7 advantage in steals. The visitors had 10 blocks on the evening, while the hosts did not register any, and the Generals won the turnover battle, committing 13 miscues, while the Broncos finished with 19.

Bronx will return to action on Thursday evening, as the Broncos will welcome the Wave of Kingsborough to the Alumni Gymnasium for a CUNY/Region 15 contest. Start-time is scheduled for 8:00pm.
