Broncos put forth hearty effort, drop season opener to BMCC 2-1 at Ohio Field

The Broncos' men's soccer team dropped a competitive season-opening match on Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Panthers of BMCC in CUNY action by a score of 2-1. The match took place at Ohio Field in the Bronx. While the contest served as the Broncos' first of the 2025 campaign (0-1 overall, 0-1 CUNY), the Panthers improved to 2-0 on the year (1-0 CUNY).

BMCC wasted no time taking an early advantage in this conference clash, as Roje Richards collected a pass from Waseem Mohamed and slipped a ball past Broncos started keeper Kevin Briones (4:25) to make it 1-0 visitors. Bronx then made an early goalkeeper switch, making the move to Maxwell Asomani Asare in net.

The Panthers' lead stayed 1-0 until the final minute of the opening half when Aboubacar Barry scored an unassisted tally at 44:24 to increase the visitors' advantage to a pair. At the half, BMCC led 2-0.

Bronx got on the board in the 50th minute when newcomer Darel Reyes settled a high cross pass in the box from Yusif Razakou before blasting the ball into the lower right corner of the goal, pulling the hosts within one, 2-1. The Broncos spent the next 40:51 battling to net the equalizer, but Panthers keeper Mahmoud Gad made three second half saves to keep Bronx in check the rest of the way.

Gad earned the victory in net for the visitors, playing all 90 minutes and allowing just one goal while stopping three shots. Briones took the loss in net for Bronx, playing just five minutes and allowing one goal and making a serve. Asomani Asare logged 85 solid minutes in net for the hosts, yielding just one goal while making seven saves.

For the match, BMCC held a slim 20-18 advantage in shots.

Bronx will look to get back on track Thursday afternoon, as the Broncos will host the Wave of Kingsborough Community College in another CUNY clash. Start-time at Ohio Field is scheduled for 4:00pm.
