Ana Matos and Yahannis Martinez post double-doubles in the Broncos' CUNY setback to the Caimans

The Broncos' women's basketball team dropped a CUNY Conference game on Thursday evening, falling to the Caimans of Hostos Community College by a score of 91-36. The game took place at the Swamp in the Bronx. With the defeat, Bronx dipped to a mark of 4-12 on the 2024-2025 campaign, while the Caimans improved to a record of 21-1 on the year.

Despite the loss for the Broncos, Ana Matos posted a double-double, scoring 10 points while grabbing 10 rebounds, swiping three steals, and adding a pair of assists. Yahannis Martinez also registered a double-double, finishing with 10 points and 12 boards while adding a pair of dimes, and Angelina Gonzalez finalized her evening with eight points, seven rebounds, three steals, and three assists.

Bronx trailed by a score of 46-18 at halftime, and the powerful Caimans continued to pour it on offensively, netting 45 more points in the final two periods while holding the Broncos to just another 18.

The Broncos connected on 24.5 percent of their shots from the floor for the evening (13-53) while collecting 47 rebounds on the evening, swiping a total of eight steals, and dishing seven assists.

Bronx will return to action on Tuesday evening, as the Broncos will take on the Queensborough Community College club squad. Start-time at the Alumni Gymnasium is scheduled for 6:00pm.
