Tigers' balanced attack too potent for Broncos as Queensborough posts blowout victory in CUNY clash

The Broncos' men's basketball team suffered a loss on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Tigers of Queensborough by a score of 68-28 in CUNY action. The game took place at the Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx. With the setback, Bronx dipped to a mark of 0-10 on the 2025-2026 campaign (0-4 CUNY), while the Tigers improved to 8-1 (4-0 CUNY).

Pacing Bronx despite the loss was Alexander Hattel, as he scored a team-high 10 points to go along with three rebounds and two steals. Newcomer Said Martin netted seven points while collecting six rebounds, and Timothaeus Graham finalized his afternoon with seven points, six boards, two assists, and two steals. Finally, it was Omar Ait Mohamed Amer contributing seven points and three boards.

Six players scored in double figures for the Tigers, including Diego Cruz Lopez, as the standout scored a game-high 21 points (9-11 FG) to go along with four rebounds, three assists, and three steals. Derick Charles scored 20 points (9-13 FG), snatched three boards, swiped three steals, and added two dimes, and Angel Nunez posted a double-double with 14 points, game-highs of 13 rebounds and four assists, as well as two blocked shots. Other Tigers scoring in double figures were Jerheim Elder (13 points), Jalen Cline (13 points), and Byron Sun (11 points).

Queensborough never trailed in the game, racing out to a commanding 25-3 advantage in the opening 7:51 of play. Byron Sun paced the Tigers during that aforementioned opening stretch with seven points. The visitors later took their biggest lead of the first half when Jalen Cline converted on a layup with 5:28 left in the half to put Queensborough ahead 48-14. A 10-2 spurt by the Broncos followed (highlighted by Anthony Torres' three-point conversion) pulled the hosts to within 26 (50-24), but the visitors closed the session with a 9-4 run to take a 59-28 edge into the locker room at halftime.

Just as they did to start the contest, the Tigers were hitting on all cylinders to start the second session, netting the first 15 points of the half over a span of 4:54 to take a 74-28 advantage. Lopez scored seven points for the visitors during that run. From there, Queensborough never led by fewer than 43 points, eventually boosting its commanding edge to as many as 59 points, before winning the contest by 56 (115-59).

The Tigers connected on a sensational 53.2 percent of their attempts from the floor (42-79), while also making the most of their opportunities at the stripe, earning a conversion rate of 77.4 percent (24-31). On the flip side, Bronx drained just 17 of its 65 shot attempts (26.2 percent), while earning a conversion rate of 69 percent from the free throw line (20-29). Queensborough dominated the glass, snatching 59 rebounds to the Broncos' 33, and the Tigers also held advantages in assists (21-11), steals (17-9), and blocked shots (10-2). The visitors won the turnover battle, committing 17 miscues, while the Broncos finished with 25.

Bronx will get back to work on Tuesday evening, as the Broncos travel to Long Island City, NY to take on LaGuardia Community College. Start time for that CUNY clash is set for 8:00pm.
