The Broncos' women's basketball team put forth a hearty 40-minute effort on Thursday evening, but ultimately came up short, falling to the Express of Monroe University-Bronx by a score of 72-57. The contest took place at the Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx. With the loss, the Broncos had their three-game winning streak snapped, dipping to 5-3, while the Express improved to 11-1.

Despite the loss for Bronx, newcomer Kolonnie Green posted yet another double-double, scoring a team-high 15 points (6-11 FG) to go along with a game-high 16 rebounds. Her four blocked shots were a team-best, and she also added three assists. Akela Robertson added 11 points, five boards, and a pair of assists and two steals, and her sister Akira Robertson finalized her evening with seven points, five caroms, and three assists.

Pacing Monroe University-Bronx was Beverly Williams, as he 19 points (9-11 FT) were a game-high. She also swiped five steals and collected a pair of boards. Finally, it was Aneyah McLamb netting 13 points, pulling down six rebounds, swatting a game-high five shots, and adding four assists.

The visitors took control of the game early, snatching a commanding 21-6 edge late in the first quarter. The Broncos, just as they did for most of the game, stayed gritty and kept things interesting, putting together an 11-4 run over a span of 6:54 to inch to within eight (25-17). Akela Robertson led the way for Bronx during that aforementioned spurt with six points. The teams engaged in competitive back-and-forth play over the final 6:54 of the second quarter, with Monroe University-Bronx owning a 38-28 edge as time expired on the first half.

Bronx scored the first four points of the second half, capped off by a pair of free throws courtesy of Destiny Dickerson, to slice Monroe's advantage to just six (38-32) with 8:32 remaining in the third frame. The Express responded to that Bronx run with a 7-2 run, capped by a three-point play by McLamb, to bump Monroe University-Bronx's lead back to double digits at 45-34.

After Green split a pair of free throws for the Broncos on their next possession, Rios converted on a hoop while drawing contact. She drained the ensuing free throw go give her squad a 48-35 advantage with 6:40 left in the quarter. Monroe University-Bronx's lead grew to as many as 15 points, which matched their largest advantage up to that juncture, before the Express took a 14-point advantage (57-43) into the final period.

Early in the fourth, the Broncos trailed 60-43 before putting together a 10-3 run over a span of 3:48 to close to within 10 (63-53) with under 5:00 to play (4:58). That run came courtesy of four points apiece from Green and Destiny Davis, and a pair from Akela Robertson. Monroe halted Bronx's momentum when Rios converted on a clutch three-point launch to extend the Express' advantage to 13 with 4:44 left to play in regulation. The Broncos were not able to put together any more runs, as the Express would eventually go on to win the NJCAA Region XV contest by 15 (72-57).
