Broncos unable to keep pace with Express as Monroe University-Bronx secures convincing Region XV victory

Bronx's men's basketball team is still searching for its first victory of the 2025-2026 campaign, as the Broncos lost to the Express of Monroe University-Bronx by a score of 93-67. The game took place at the Alumni Gymnasium on the campus of BCC. With the defeat, the Broncos are 0-9 on the season, while the visitors improved to 7-3.

Dai'zon Kearse paced the Broncos despite the loss, as he connected on four of his five attempts from downtown, finishing with a team-high 14 points in 17 minutes of action. Veteran Alexander Hattel netted 10 points while snatching a pair of rebounds, and Shamari Johnson finalized his evening with nine points.

Jalonie Pittman and Josmar Acevedo led the way for Monroe University-Bronx, as they tied for the game-high of 16 points. Pittman also tied for the game-high of eight rebounds, dished three assists, and swiped two steals, while Acevedo registered three assists and grabbed two boards. Adrian Rosario scored 10 points, tied for the game-high of eight boards, and led all players with three swatted shots, and Steven McGriff finalized his evening with 10 points and four boards.

The Express held a commanding 22-7 advantage just 10:17 into the contest, but the Broncos outscored the visitors 13-6 over the ensuing 4:40 to inch to within eight, 28-20, with 5:03 remaining in the opening half. Shamari Johnson and Ismael Martinez scored four points apiece during that stretch, with Tyler Flagg capping the run by burying a long triple. The pendulum then swung Monroe University-Bronx's way, as the Express used a 13-5 run to take a 41-25 edge into the locker room at halftime. During that final stretch, Pittman was excellent, account for seven points.

The visitors held its biggest lead of the game (a 37-point edge) on three different occasions in the second stanza. Bronx finished the game on a 14-7 run, but it was too late, too late for the hosts, as the Express secured a convincing 26-point triumph (93-67).

Monroe University-Bronx connected on 50.7 percent of its shots from the floor (36-71), whole the Broncos struggled shooting the basketball, earning a conversion rate of 38.5 percent (25-65). The Express held a dominant 55-30 edge on the glass, while also dishing 28 assists to Bronx's 11. The visitors swiped 12 steals, while the hosts had nine, and Monroe University-Bronx held a sizable 7-1 advantage in swatted shots. Both teams took care of the basketball, combining for just 27 turnovers (Broncos had 14, Express 13).

Bronx will look to get in the win column on Saturday afternoon, as the Broncos will welcome the Tigers of Queensborough to the Alumni Gymnasium for a CUNY game. Start-time is scheduled for 4:00pm.
