Broncos hindered by shooting struggles in loss to Westchester Vikings in Region XV action

The Broncos' men's basketball team suffered a Region XV loss on Saturday afternoon, falling to the Vikings of Westchester by a score of 94-55. The game took place at the Viking Gymnasium in Valhalla, NY. With the defeat, Bronx dipped to a mark of 0-11 on the 2025-2026 campaign, while Westchester improved to 5-9.

Despite the loss for the Broncos, Said Martin posted a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 21 rebounds. Aden Lugo also put forth a strong effort, finishing with 13 points, a pair of rebounds, two assists, and two steals, and finally, Jonathan Santiago contributed seven points and four boards.

Five players scored in double figures for the victorious Vikings, including Arber Mustafaj, as he scored a team-high 14 points (5-9 FG, 3-3 FT) while collecting five rebounds. Tarik Dacosta netted 13 points while dishing a game-high seven assists, snatching three rebounds, and swiping two steals, and Tiziah Spears finalized his afternoon with 13 points, five rebounds, and three steals. Isaac Turay added 11 points, three rebounds, and two steals, and Yunus Abdul posted a double-double with 10 points, a team-high 10 rebounds, and four assists.

Bronx trailed 34-22 at the half, before Westchester blew things open over the final 20 minutes of the Region XV clash. The Vikings outscored the Broncos 60-33 in the final period to account for the 39-point margin of victory (94-59).

It was an all-around struggle for the Broncos shooting the basketball, as Bronx drained just 31.4 percent of its shots from the floor (16-51), including 0-for-11 from downtown. The Broncos also misfired on 19 free throws, shooting just 54.8 percent from the stripe (23-42). Westchester was efficient shooting the basketball, connecting on 43 percent of its shot attempts (37-86), though the Vikings did struggle at the line, misfiring on 16 freebees (12-28, 42.9 percent).

Bronx held a slim edges in rebounds (44-43) and blocked shots (4-3), but the Vikings tallied 21 steals to the Broncos' eight, and dished 29 assists to the Broncos' 12. The hosts also won the turnover battle, committing 19 miscues, while Bronx had 30.

The Broncos will now have 23 days off before returning to the court on Tuesday, January 6. On that day, Bronx will host the Red Hawks of LaGuardia in a CUNY contest at the Alumni Gymnasium. Start-time is scheduled for 8:00pm.
