Bronx struggles to manufacture enough offense in 82-61 loss to LaGuardia Red Hawks at Alumni Gym

The Broncos' men's basketball team put forth a valiant effort on Tuesday evening, but ultimately lost a CUNY game, falling to the Red Hawks of LaGuardia Community College by a score of 82-61. The contest took place at the Alumni Gymnasium in the Bronx. With the defeat, Bronx dipped to a mark of 0-13 on the 2025-2026 campaign (0-6 CUNY), while the visitors improved to 4-9 (3-3 CUNY).

Despite the loss for the Broncos, veteran Alexander Hattel scored a team-high 18 points to go along with six rebounds and a team-best four assists. Jacob Ortiz connected on three trifectas to finish with 15 points. He also snatched four rebounds (all offensive) while swiping a pair of steals. Newcomer Bryan Teixeira netted eight points while collecting five rebounds, dishing three assists, and recording a pair of steals, and Said Martin's eight rebounds were a team-high.

Charlie Hall paced LaGuardia in its victory, as he connected on 12 of his 18 shot attempts to finish with a game-high 31 points. He also posted game-highs of 14 points, seven assists, and three blocks, while swiping two steals. In addition, Chase McCray scored 22 points while snatching seven boards, dishing six assists, and swiping a game-best five steals. Joshua Phillip netted eight points while pulling down seven rebounds and registering a pair of dimes, and Steven Garcia finalized his evening with seven points and 11 boards.

Bronx trailed 11-4 just 5:04 into the contest, but chipped away at its deficit, inching to within three (17-14) on a converted layup by Martin with 11:53 remaining in the opening half. Over the course of the next 6:42, the Broncos would fall behind by seven on two different occasions, but once again would slice to within three (27-24) on Lugo's drained jumper. The turning point of the game occurred at this juncture, though, when LaGuardia would finish the half on a 16-7 run to take a 43-31 advantage into the locker room at halftime. McCray led the way for the visitors during that aforementioned spurt, scoring eight points.

With 14:24 remaining in the CUNY clash, LaGuardia took its largest lead of the game on a converted Hall layup, as the Red Hawks took an 18-point edge (56-38). Later, with the Red Hawks holding a 59-42 advantage, the Broncos used an 11-3 run over a span of 3:14 to close to within single digits (62-53). Hattel contributed four points during that run, with Ortiz adding three.

Unfortunately for the Broncos, the Red Hawks would dominate the final 9:15 of action, outscoring the hosts 20-9 to account for the 21-point margin of victory (82-61).

Both teams shot under 40 percent from the floor, with the Red Hawks earning a conversion rate of 39.5 percent (32-81), and the Broncos connecting on 20 out of 67 shot attempts (29.9 percent). Both teams were excellent from the line, with LaGuardia nailing 16 out of 21 freebees (76.2 percent), and Bronx draining 73.9 percent (17-23). The Red Hawks dominated the glass, out-rebounding the Broncos 57-42, and LaGuardia held edges in rebounds (20-14), blocks (8-4), and steals (9-5).

Bronx will return to action on Thursday evening, as the Broncos will stay home to clash with the Colts of Orange County Community College. Start-time is scheduled for 8:00pm.
