Men's basketball suffers losses to Kingsborough, Rockland in recent contests

The Broncos' men's basketball team lost a pair of contests in recent days, falling to the Wave of Kingsborough in a CUNY game by a score of 99-81 in Brooklyn this past Thursday, before losing to the Hawks of Rockland 133-56 this past Saturday at the Alumni Gymnasium. With that aforementioned output, Bronx is now 0-6 on the 2025 campaign (0-3 CUNY), while Kingsborough improved to 2-3 (2-1 CUNY), and the Hawks upped their mark to 5-1.

November 13, 2025: Kingsborough 99, Bronx 81

In the Broncos' loss to the Wave, veteran Alexander Hattel registered team-highs of 21 points, 10 rebounds, and five steals. He also added two assists, as well. Newcomer Alan Pimentel netted 14 points while snatching a pair of boards, and Aden Lugo and Dai'zon Kearse scored seven points apiece.

Kingsborough was paced by Jayden Ennon Martin, as the standout connected on nine of his 10 free throw opportunities to finish with a game-high 22 points. His four assists also led all players, and additionally, he grabbed four rebounds and swiped two steals. Cai Walker (8-9 FT) finalized hier evening with 16 points, while Aiden Morgan and Justin James finished with 10 apiece. In addition to James' 10 points, he also snatched 10 boards. Finally, Rushaun Walker's 13 rebounds led all players.

The Wave held a modest eight-point lead as the buzzer sounded on the first half, as Kingsborough held a 49-41 advantage after 20 minutes of action, Kingsborough did a quality job of keeping Bronx at a distance in the second half, as the hosts outscored the Broncos 50-40 in the final period to account for the 18-point margin of victory.

For the game, Kingsborough earned a shooting percentage of 39.5 percent (30-76), and the Wave also converted on 68 percent of its attempts from the stripe (34-50). Bronx lost the game despite shooting a higher percentage from the floor, as the Broncos converted on 28 of 70 shot attempts (40 percent). The visitors also earned a conversion rate of 51.5 percent from the line (17-33). The Wave dominated the glass, snatching 63 boards to Bronx's 33, and Kingsborough held edges in assists (14-8) and blocked shots (5-3). The Broncos swiped 14 steals compared to nine for the hosts, and Bronx also won the turnover battle, committing just 16 miscues, while the Wave finished with 25.

November 15, 2025: Rockland 133, Bronx 56

Said Martin posted a double-double for the Broncos in the team's loss to Rockland, as the newcomer scored a team-high 13 points while snatching a game-high 10 boards. Hattel finished his afternoon with nine points, a game-best five assists, four rebounds, and two steals, and Justin Thomas scored seven points and swiped a pair of steals.

Eight players scored in double figures for the Hawks, including Channer Duke (7-8 FG, 3-4 FT), and Duke scored a game-high 20 points while swiping five steals and tying for the team-high of four assists. Jaden Chavis added 17 points, four rebounds, and two steals, and Jerell Taylor and Isaiah Crawford netted 13 points apiece. Taylor's six steals were a game-high, and he also added five boards while tying for the team-high of four assists. Crawford, in addition to his 13 points, recorded four steals, snatched three boards, and dished two assists. Rounding out the double-digit scorers for the visitors were Amari McCammon (12 points), Tristan Bowen (11 points), Jayden Harrington (11 points), and Ahmir Dunn (10 points).

The Broncos kept the game tight in the opening 7:08, as a converted jumper by Kearse inched Bronx to within four, 18-14. A 12-1 run by the visitors over the ensuing 2:39 of action put Rockland ahead 30-15. The aforementioned run was highlighted by four points apiece by Sam Acevedo and Bowen.

The Hawks gradually built their lead over the final 10 minutes of the opening half, outscoring the Broncos 35-14 over that span, and allowing Bronx to convert on just four field goals during that stretch (one apiece by Martin and Hattel, and two by Jacob Ortiz). At the half, the visitors led 65-29.

Rockland scored the first 10 points of the second half as the advantage ballooned to 46, and for the remainder of the Region XV contest, the Hawks never led by any fewer than 44. The Hawks' offense kept coming at the Broncos to the tune of putting a 133-spot on the scoreboard.

The Hawks earned a conversion rate of 54.7 percent for the game (47-86). Rockland also made the most of its opportunities at the free throw line, draining 31 of 72 shots from the stripe (73.8 percent). Bronx shot under 30 percent from the floor (17-59, 28.8 percent), though the team was stellar at the line, converting on 71.4 percent of its opportunities (20-28).

Rockland dominated in most categories, snatching 55 rebounds to Bronx's 35. The Hawks held a 37-14 edge in steals, 27-12 advantage in assists, and Rockland won the turnover battle, committing just 20 miscues, while Bronx had 50. The teams blocked five shots apiece for the afternoon.

Next Up for the Broncos

The Broncos will return to action on Tuesday evening, as Bronx will welcome the Suffolk Sharks to the Alumni Gymnasium for a Region XV contest. Start-time is scheduled for 8:00pm.
