Broncos unable to establish rhythm offensively in CUNY Conference loss to Wave

The Broncos' women's basketball team dropped a CUNYAC Community College Conference game on Thursday evening, falling to the Wave of Kingsborough Community College by a score of 112-32. The game took place in Brooklyn, NY, on the campus of KCC. With the defeat, Bronx dipped to a mark of 3-9 on the 2024-2025 campaign, while the Wave improved to 20-1.

Despite the loss for Bronx, Yahannis Martinez scored a team-high 21 points while also collecting six rebounds and swiping a pair of steals. Fatoumata Diarra contributed nine points on the evening, and Angelina Gonzalez tied for the game-high of seven assists, while also pulling down four rebounds.

In the victory for the Wave, Endya Greene connected on 15 of her 24 attempts from the floor, recording a game-high 33 points. She also tied for game-highs of seven assists and seven steals, additionally snatching seven rebounds. Kayla Wilson (11-15 FG) posted a double-double with 22 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. She also dished five assists and tallied three steals. Tionna Davis finished with 14 points, seven boards, six dimes, and three steals, and finally, it was Jayden Vega adding 13 points, nine caroms, and three assists.

Kingsborough raced out to an early 6-0 advantage in the opening 1:50 of the game, courtesy of a bucket by Greene, and consecutive baskets by Wilson. After a hoop by Martinez got the Broncos on the board, the Wave responded with 16 straight points over a span of 5:16 to snatch a 22-2 edge. Kingsborough led 31-7 after a quarter, and outscored the visitors 34-3 in the second to take a commanding 65-10 advantage at halftime.

The Wave continued to light up the scoreboard in the second half, scoring 30 points in the third quarter to the Broncos' 11. Kingsborough went up by as many as 83 points in the fourth, before going on to win the game 112-32.

Kingsborough connected on 55.3 percent of its attempts from the floor (47-85) for the night, while Bronx earned a conversion rate of 27.1 percent (13-48). The Wave held a commanding 59-22 edge on the glass, while also swiping 33 steals to the Broncos' eight. Kingsborough won the turnover battle by a wide margin, committing 18 miscues, while Bronx had 40, and KCC held a 29-9 edge in assists.

Bronx will look to rebound on Saturday afternoon, as the Broncos welcome the Sharks of Suffolk County Community College to the Alumni Gymnasium. Start-time for the game is scheduled for 12:00pm.
