The Broncos' women's volleyball team suffered a three-set loss on Thursday evening, falling to the Tigers of Fashion Institute of Technology by scores of 13-25, 6-25, and 11-25. The match took place at the Alumni Gymnasium on the campus of Bronx Community College. With the defeat, the Broncos slipped to a mark of 1-4 on the season, while the Tigers improved to 3-1.

Despite the loss for the hosts, freshman Pamela Sierra put forth a dominant performance, registering match-highs of 11 kills and 17 digs. She was also tremendously efficient on the evening, hitting .222 while committing just three attack errors. Setter and birthday girl Naomi Rodriguez added a pair of kills, a team-high 10 assists, and six digs, and libero Valerie De Los Santos' 11 digs led all players.

Fashion Institute of Technology was paced by Kiara Reid's stellar night, as she registered a team-high seven kills on 16 swats, committing no errors in the process (.438). Alyssa Dixon added five kills and three digs, and Mary-Margaret Griffiths contributed four kills, six digs, and five service aces. Setter Lydia Tung's 14 assists and six service aces were both match-highs.

The Tigers raced out to an early 7-0 lead in the opening set, and later led 23-8 before a string of five consecutive Broncos points pulled Bronx to within 10, 23-13. Those five points came courtesy of a pair of Sierra kills, two Andrea Ramos service aces, and an attack error by Caitlyn Schildhouse. FIT then closed out the set with back-to-back points, thanks to a kill my Griffiths, and a service ace by Tung.

FIT held a modest 5-3 in the second set before outscoring the Broncos 20-3 the rest of the way to capture the set, 25-6, and take a 2-0 lead for the match. Nine of those final 20 points of set two for the visitors came via service aces, including three apiece by Riley Budenas and Griffiths.

Trailing 12-2 in the third set, Bronx battled to keep it respectable, going on a 5-3 run to pull to within eight, 15-7. Sierra registered two kills during that run, with Veronica Rivera adding one. Later, with FIT ahead 20-10, the Tigers scored five of the next six points to capture the set, 25-11, and the match, 3-0.

The Tigers earned a .301 hitting percentage for the evening (29-4-83), while Bronx hit .000 (14-14-71). The visitors also piled 22 service aces, while the Broncos finished with six.

Bronx will return to the court on Saturday afternoon, as the Broncos travel to Garden City, NY to take on Nassau Community College and Monroe University-Bronx in a tri-match. Bronx's class with the Lions is scheduled for 12pm, before the Broncos take on the Express in a neutral contest at 1:15pm.
