Ashraf Abubakar's scoring barrage (three goals) paces Broncos to comeback victory over Colts

The Broncos' men's soccer team picked up an impressive victory on Thursday afternoon, coming from behind to defeat the Colts of SUNY Orange by a score of 3-2. The match took place at Ohio Field on the campus of Bronx Community College. With the victory, the Broncos squared their record a 2-2 on the year, while the Colts stayed winless on the year, slipping to 0-5.  

Bronx standout Ashraf Abubakar got the scoring underway in the third minute, tapping home Mohammed Ali's beautiful lead pass to make it 1-0 in favor of the hosts. 11 minutes later, Mikdad Abubakar netted an unassisted tally to increase the Broncos' edge to a pair (2-0).

SUNY Orange stormed back later in the half, netting three goals in a nine-minute span. Jonathan Santos netted two goals four minutes apart, finding the back of the net at 25:00 and 29:00. The Colts' Edwin Ortega gave his team the lead, converting on a penalty kick at 33:00 to put SUNY Orange ahead 3-2. That would be the final goal scored of the opening session.

In the early stages of the second half, Mikdad Abubakar would net the equalizer, scoring at 48:00 to knot the match at three-all. Later, Ashraf Abubakar would score two goals 9:20 apart, the first an unassisted tally at 78:20, and Bronx's fifth goal at 87:00 (from Mikdad Abubakar) to lead the Broncos to an impressive come-from-behind victory.

For the afternoon, the Broncos held a 15-10 edge in shots, while also earning nine corner kick opportunities compared to four for the opposition. Bronx netminder Julien Sossa allowed three goals and made a pair of saves while registering the victory in net. His counterpart, SUNY Orange's Ebani Rugerio, took the loss between the pipes, yielding five goals and making four saves.

The Broncos will return to action on Tuesday afternoon, as Bronx will host Suffolk County Community College. Start-time at Ohio Field is scheduled for 4:00pm.
