Broncos' defense struggles in second half of 9-2 loss to Monroe University-Bronx

The Broncos' men's soccer team dropped to a mark of 1-2 on the 2024 campaign on Tuesday evening, falling to the Express of Monroe University-Bronx by a score of 9-2. The match took place at Flowers Park in New Rochelle, NY. With the victory, the Express improved to a record of 4-0, staying unblemished.

Trailing 3-1 in the 28th minute of the match, Broncos veteran Ashraf Abubakar netted an unassisted tally – his second of the evening, to pull the visitors within a goal at 3-2. That would be the final tally of a high-scoring first half, with the Express holding a marginal one-goal edge.

Monroe-University Bronx broke the match open over a span of 6:48, finding the back of the net three times to take a commanding 6-2 advantage. Chrismonor Eugene scored his second tally of the match at 51:06 to give the Express a 4-2 edge, and Mike Suazo (from Eugene) found the back of the net 35 ticks later to make it 5-2. Dieuvenson Leger capped that aforementioned span with a goal at 57:54 to make it 6-2.
 
The Express continued to pour it on in the latter stages of the inter-borough clash. Christian Trujillo scored at 68:23 (from Eugene), and Eugene notched his third tally of the match at 69:55 (from Trujillo). Naim Bakere capped the scoring for the night with a tally at 83:21 (from Clermens Devariste).
 
Monroe University-Bronx took 29 shots on the evening, with 18 of those being on-net, while the Broncos finished with 16 shot attempts, including seven on-goal. The Express earned 14 corner kick opportunities compared to two for the Broncos, and Monroe-University was whistled for 13 fouls, while Bronx committed 10 infractions.
 
Edwin Martinez yielded nine goals on the evening in taking the loss, while also making nine stops. Express netminder Dwayne Brown allowed just two goals while stopping five shots in earning the victory.
 
The Broncos will return to the pitch on Thursday, as Bronx will host the Colts of Orange County Community College. Start-time at Ohio Field is scheduled for 4:00pm.
