Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Ana Matos' dominant effort (32 points, 15 rebounds, eight steals) paces Broncos to convincing 66-40 win over Panthers

The Broncos' women's basketball team opened its 2024-2025 campaign this past Saturday, dominating the Panthers of the Borough of Manhattan Community College by a score of 66-40. The contest served as the season-opener for both squads, and took place at the BMCC Gymnasium in New York, NY.

Leading the way for the Broncos with a sensational effort was newcomer Ana Matos, as she nearly registered a triple-double, posting a game-high 30 points (11-21 FG) to go along with 15 rebounds and eight steals. The standout connected on four triples on the afternoon, while also swatting a pair of shots. Taylar Hill drained four shots, all trifectas, as she contributed 17 points and two steals, and Angelina Gonzalez finalized her afternoon with a nice versatile effort, scoring seven points, tallying eight steals, and snatching four rebounds.

Kamella Ross paced the Panthers, as she scored a team-high 15 points (7-13 FG). Ashley Michel netted 13 points for BMCC, and Zoe Nunez finished with four.

The Broncos led 18-9 after a quarter, and held a commanding 34-17 edge at halftime. Bronx would then outscore the hosts 32-23 over the final 20 minutes of action to account for the convincing 26-point triumph.

Bronx shot just 31.7 percent for the afternoon (20-63), though the Broncos did shoot very efficiently from long range, draining eight of their 17 attempts from downtown.

The Broncos will return to the hardwood on Thursday evening, as Bronx will take on Hostos Community College at the Alumni Gymnasium. Start-time for the contest is scheduled for 6:00pm.
