Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Despite commendable effort, Broncos' soccer team loses opener, 2-0 to Kingsborough

Despite a valiant effort, the Broncos' men's soccer team dropped the first match of the Cleon Hibbert era, falling to CUNYAC rival Kingsborough by a score of 2-0. The conference confrontation took place at Ohio Field in the Bronx. While the match served as Bronx's season opener, the Wave improved to 2-0 with the victory.

Both of the visitors' goals came in the opening half of play. Stevens Antoine scored a goal inside the box, slicing home a beautiful lead pass from Jason Ingel to give Kingsborough a 1-0 edge in the fourth minute. Just under 30 minutes later (34th minute), Kingsborough would find the back of the net again, as Joseph Pierre would hit paydirt (from Andy Nebblett) to make it 2-0 in favor of the Wave. The score would remain 2-0 Kingsborough as time expired on the first half.

In the second session, the Broncos came out with a sense of urgency, but the home squad was unable to notch a goal, as Kingsborough held on for an impressive 2-0 victory.

Kingsborough goalkeeper Kirill Syroegin registered a shutout, making six stops, while his counterpart, Bronx's Melvin Valerio, played very well in net, allowing just the two first half goals while recording seven saves, some of them spectacular.

The Wave recorded 26 shots on the afternoon to the Broncos' 17. Bronx newcomers Abdul Mohammed and Mohammed Ali registered seven and five shots, respectively.

Bronx returns to action on Saturday afternoon, as the Broncos will head to Stone Ridge, NY to battle SUNY Ulster. Start-time is scheduled for 1:00pm.
