Game Recap: Women's Volleyball |

Kaylyn Radcliff registers team-high five service aces in Bronx's loss to Kingsborough

The Broncos' women's volleyball team dropped a CUNYAC match last night, falling to the Wave of Kingsborough Community College by scores of 8-25, 15-25, and 15-25. The match took place at the Alumni Gymnasium, and served as the Broncos' home opener. With the defeat, Bronx is now 0-5 on the season (0-3 CUNYAC), while the Wave improved to 2-3 (1-0 CUNYAC).

Despite the loss for Bronx, Keity Liberata registered a team-high three kills to go along with a pair of digs. Leslie Ferrer's nine digs and three assists were both team-highs, and Kaylyn Radcliff's five service aces led all Broncos.

For Kingsborough, Miriam Soltan led all players with six kills, hitting .333 in the process (6-2-12). Victoria Cook's eight assists and six service aces were match highs, and Noarie Proverbs' 13 digs led all players.

After Kingsborough won the first set in dominating fashion (25-8), the Broncos raced to a 6-3 advantage early in the second. Ferrer recorded a pair of aces during that run, and Radcliff notched a kill as well. The Wave followed that early Broncos run by scoring four straight to catapult ahead 7-6. The CUNYAC foes then exchanged the lead before the match was knotted at 10 apiece.

From there, the Wave went on a 14-3 spurt to grab a 24-13 lead. The Broncos scored a pair to draw within 24-15, before Kingsborough closed it out following a service error by veteran Dayanara Segura.

In the third set, the Broncos trailed 10-5, but refused to go quietly. Bronx put together eight consecutive points, powered by Radcliff's four service aces, to take a 13-10 advantage. Just as they did in the second set, however, Kingsborough would go in a big run, closing out the set and the match with a 15-2 run.

For the match, the Wave hit .167 (20-10-60), while the Broncos hit in the negative (8-17-54, -.167). The Wave finalized its evening with 21 service aces, while Bronx finished with 10. The teams were nearly deadlocked in the digs category, with the Broncos piling 30, compared to 29 for the visitors.

Bronx will return to action on Saturday, as the Broncos travel to Poughkeepsie, NY to compete in a tri-match. The Broncos will play host Dutchess Community College at 12:00pm, before taking on SUNY Orange in a neutral contest at 1:15pm.
