Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Rockland's scoring barrage in second half sends Broncos to non-conference defeat

The Broncos' men's soccer team is still searching for its first victory of the 2023 campaign, as Bronx was defeated Thursday afternoon by the Hawks of Rockland Community College by a score of 5-2. The match took place at Ohio Field in the Bronx. With the loss, the Broncos dipped to 0-3 on the season, while Rockland improved to 1-3 with its win.

The Hawks broke through for the first goal of the non-conference contest when Harmon Braddock collected a pass from Kenneth Garcia-Ortiz before depositing the ball in the upper right hand corner of the net. Bronx tied the match 11 minutes later when Momodou Jammeh registered an unassisted goal. The teams played scoreless soccer over the ensuing 25 minutes of play, and so the match was deadlocked 1-1 after one session.

In the second half, four consecutive Rockland goals over the course of 29 minutes catapulted the Hawks to a blowout victory. Jhonn Vasquez netted an unassisted tally in the 50th minute, before scoring again 19 minutes later (69') after slashing home a pass from Janmarcos Gonzalez. Braddock, who netted the visitors first goal, scored Rockland's fourth of the day (from Vasquez in the 76th minute), and Joseph Portanova capped the scoring for the Hawks, as he scored in the 79th minute.

The Broncos were able to light up the scoreboard one more time, as Ashraf Abubakar netted a goal in the 89th minute of play.

Bronx will now have four days off before returning to action on Tuesday afternoon, as the Broncos will welcome the Express of Monroe-
Bronx to Ohio Field. Start-time is scheduled for 4:00pm.
