Broncos defeated by Panthers in straight sets in 2023 opener

The Broncos' women's volleyball team began its 2023 campaign on Saturday afternoon, falling to CUNYAC foe BMCC by scores of 5-25, 10-25, and 6-25. The match took place at the BMCC Gymnasium in Lower Manhattan. While the match served as Bronx's season opener (0-1 Overall, 0-1 CUNYAC), the Panthers improved to 1-2 on the year (and 1-1 in CUNYAC action).

Despite the loss for the Broncos, newcomer Abigail Cabrera contributed with a pair of kills and a team-high six assists. Keity Liberata, also in her first year with Bronx, contributed two kills and two digs.

In the victory for BMCC, the Panthers were paced by Sarah Sellami, as she registered a match-high eight kills. Silvia Chen had a phenomenal all-around match, posting match-highs of 22 service aces and 15 assists. Andrea Richino added four kills, and Johana Boleaga chipped in with three kills and four service aces.

BMCC dominated the CUNYAC clash, hitting .314 (21-5-51) while piling 32 service aces.

Bronx will look to bounce back on Tuesday evening, as the Broncos make the short trip to Hostos for another CUNYAC match. Start-time for the clash with the Caimans is scheduled for 7:00pm.
