Bronx's three-game winning streak snapped as Broncos fall to Bulldogs, 107-74; James Wenzel scores team-high 19 points

The Broncos' men's basketball team had its three-game winning streak snapped on Saturday afternoon, as Bronx fell to Bunker Hill Community College by a score of 107-74. The game took place Bunker Hill's Health and Recreation Center in Boston, MA. With the defeat, Bronx slipped to a mark of 3-8 on the 2023-2024 campaign.

Despite the loss, James Wenzel put forth a hearty effort, scoring a team-high 19 points (6-12 FG, 7-10 FT) while leading all players with four steals, snatching four rebounds, and adding a pair of assists. Matthew Candelaria connected on six of his nine shot attempts, scoring 14 points on the afternoon, and Hebert Gary added 12 points, seven assists, six boards, and two steals. Daniel Armstrong contributed 10 points and six rebounds, and standout Taijay Good scored eight points while registering a game-high 10 assists, and snatching five caroms.

The Bulldogs were led by Aljun Brown, as he connected on seven of his 10 shots overall, including four out of five from downtown, to finish with a game-high 20 points. He also grabbed a pair of boards, tallied two assists, and added a pair of steals. Shamar Moore scored 16 points while recording three assists, and Samuel Omisore put forth a tremendous effort with 14 points and eight rebounds. Ethan Destin scored 11 points and piled a team-best seven assists, and finally, it was Emperor Phillips contributing 10 points.

The Broncos stayed within a stone's throw of the Bulldogs in the opening half, trailing by just nine (43-34) as the teams entered the locker room at halftime, but it was all Bunker Hill over the course of the final 20 minutes, as the Bulldogs outscored Bronx 64-40 to win the game going-away by 33 (107-74).

Bunker Hill was tremendous shooting the basketball on Saturday afternoon, draining 45 of its 83 shot attempts (54.2 percent). Bronx was also very efficient from the floor, earning a conversion rate of 44.9 percent (31-69) on its shot attempts. The Bulldogs held a slim 37-34 edge on the glass, while also registering 13 steals compared to 10 for the visitors. The teams combined for 52 assists, with the hosts registering 28 of them, and the Broncos accounting for 24, and Bronx doubled-up Bunker Hill in the turnover column, with the Broncos committing 24 miscues, and the Bulldogs finishing with 12.

Bronx will return to action on Thursday evening, as the Broncos will travel to Long Island City, NY to take on the Red Hawks of LaGuardia Community College in a CUNYAC contest. Start time is scheduled for 8:00pm.
